Construction:
Casing (threaded body that screws onto faucet): Chrome plated Zinc

Animal Training: Simply remove all available water, then show the installed Water Nipple to the animal(s) by moving the nipple control and letting water trickle out. Most animals will immediately start sniffing, nuzzling, and licking the hollow water-filled nipple control and learn to drink from it. If not, wait until thirsty and demonstrate again. During the waiting period leave the nipple loosely attached so water will seep past the threads and slowly drip. The dripping water will attract the animal(s) back to the Nipple for self-training. Tighten securely when training is assured.
Manufacturer's Note: For use with anti-siphon faucets, a spacer or pressure regulator will be required. Water with a lot of mineral content may cause corrosion of the casing and drinking lever. If you have minerals in your water you may want to consider a Lixit Automatic Dog Waterer for Pipes Model L-70.

I have used this product for many years now, and it is necessary for owning hunting dogs. I have them in all my pens and i have one for the dogs that stay in the yard. The Lixit is a must have!
Pros
Provides cool, fresh water on demand, minimum cleaning required, if needed at all. The installation is straight forward.
Cons
The only con is if you have to train a dog to use it, it will take some time. My older dogs always train my pups so it is usually seamless for me. You will have to plumb spigots in your pen, and locate them where the dogs cant break them off while playing.

Dexter absolutely LOVES his Lixit. He always has a fresh bowl of water inside. Yet, he makes a beeline to the outdoor spigot as soon as he is out the door. GSPs are an active breed. We go for a 3 mile walk/run twice a day. As soon as we get home, straight to the Lixit. We play in the front yard letting him jump through a hula hoop held at 4+ feet. He catches tennis balls we toss to him. He will play fetch for days with either his frisbee or his hard-plastic horse shoe. If you ever lose his attention completely, he has either spotted a bird or is heading for his Lixit. The reason I love his Lixit is its maintenance free. I attached it last summer and have had that spigot turned on full blast ever since. We even left it through our mild Mississippi winter. A word of advice: The water needs to be on ALL the way or it won't seal properly. Just Lixit and forget it...

I've had one of the Lixit L100's for the last 7-10 years, and it's finally given up the ghost. My 2 English Springer Spaniels, a German Shepherd and 2 Viszla's previously have all loved the access to fresh water 24/7. Here in South Australia the days can reach 110 degrees in the shade, so access to water is essential for a dog's health. I had no worries leaving the dogs alone on hot days with a Lixit on the faucet.
