After the first 30 days the manufacturer's warranty picks up. Comparing warranties from one company to another can be tricky.
Tri-Tronics and SportDOG have very simple warranties that last for a set period of time (one to two years depending on the product). After that period is over, if your system needs out of warranty service it can be repaired for a fee.
DT Systems and Dogtra have a "Lifetime" warranty on many of their products. These products are completely covered (parts and labor) during the first year or two. After that, you will have parts covered, but not labor.
Innotek products have a one year parts and labor warranty but they require a service fee with warranty repair in the first year (costs are dependent on the processing time and the desired shipping options).
Many Innotek products have a "Limited Lifetime Warranty." After one year from date of original retail purchase, they will repair, replace or upgrade your product at a fixed rate based on the component.
To me the "Lifetime" concept isn't that different from what Tri-Tronics and Dogtra offer since you will be paying something for the service. The difference is in how much you are going to pay.
For example - the Tri-Tronics Classic 70 G3 comes with a two year parts and labor warranty. The Tri-Tronics repair price for a Classic 70 XLS out of warranty is $150 (as of April 2009)
The SportDOG 2500 comes with a two year parts and labor warranty. After two years the service fee is $60 per component (as of July 2010)
The Innotek ADV 1000 comes with a one year parts and labor warranty. After the first year the "Limited Lifetime" warranty has a fee of 10% to 20% above wholesale cost of the component that needs repair (as of May 2004)
Which one is better? Well, that depends on how you look at it. Repair prices will increase over the lifetime of your unit, but wholesale costs and service fees will also go up. Repairing electronic components will always be expensive and if you plan on using your unit for many years (5 to 10 years) you should plan on having to spend some money on it in the future no matter which warranty you go with.
Also keep in mind that electronics will improve over time. For example if you have a 10 year old Tri-Tronics collar today that needs repair it will run you around $110 for service but because of improvements in technology, you could purchase a much nicer Tri-Tronics collar for $239.
I look at warranties as a way to protect the consumer from faulty products and manufacturer defects (both uncommon problems in the remote collar industry)
We recommend that you register your collar with the manufacturer at the time of purchase. Warranty cards should be included with your purchase. Some of the warranty protections (such as the DT Systems "Lifetime" warranty) require that the product be registered with in 30 days of purchase.

If you have questions on warranty comparisons we recommend that you check the company websites or call them directly at the numbers provided.

Most warranty situations will require you to ship the unit to the manufacturer for repair or replacement. We recommend that you ship your collar via a carrier with tracking ability (UPS, FedEx, etc.) and that you insure your collar for replacement value.

Invisible Technologies, Inc. warrants to the original retail purchaser, that Innotek brand products will be free from defects in material and workmanship, under normal use, for a period of one year from the date of the original retail purchase. This Limited Warranty excludes; accidental damage due to dog chews; lightning damage where and INNOTEK lightning protection component is not in use (in-ground pet fencing systems); or neglect, alteration and misuse.
Proof of Purchase must be provided to our customer care center before a warranty can be honored. For your convenience, a product may be registered and proof of purchase provided once and there after proof of purchase will not be required to fulfill a warranty. Also if you were unable to register your product on our website we will accept all products for repair with a proof of purchase. We strongly recommend you keep your original receipt. Limited lifetime warranty covers:
Limited Lifetime Warranty begins from the date of purchase. For the first two years coverage is for both parts and labor, on all our products purchased new. Accessories such as, chargers, splitter cables, antennas, straps and batteries have a one-year warranty from the date of purchase. Once the first and second year warranty coverage expires, the Limited Lifetime Warranty will cover for all parts except accessories and labor fees. Labor fees and shipping fees incurred are the customers' responsibility. Labor fees will be variable depending on the extent of work required. The Limited Lifetime Warranty will expire 5 years from the date a model is discontinued in production by Dogtra Company.
** Battery replacement by the customer during the first year of the warranty is not recommended. If the customer chooses to replace the batteries, any damage to the unit during the change-out by the owner will void the warranty. **
ONE-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY

D.T. Systems Premium Lifetime Warranty
(SPT, EDT and ST Series Collars Only)
D.T. Systems Premium Lifetime Warranty is the best warranty offered in the industry. This warranty is free to participating customers. This changes our normal one year parts and labor warranty to a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects on parts and a one year warranty on labor.
What is covered:
D.T. Systems Premium Lifetime Warranty covers all parts to be free from manufacturing defects for as long as the unit is held by the original owner.
Lifetime Warranty applies only to SPT, EDT and ST series collars.
What is not covered:
Batteries are not part of our lifetime warranty. Rechargeable batteries are warranted against defects for one year from the original purchase date.
Our warranty does not cover parts that malfunction due to abuse, misuse, improper maintenance, or incorrect handling.
Damage from dogs chewing or wear and tear from excessive field use is not covered.
Our warranty does not cover the cost of shipping the unit to our repair center. Return ground shipping (inside the continental United States) to the customer is covered. However, next day or second day air shipping is not covered and if requested will be charged.
Any unit purchased prior to January 2001 is not covered by the Lifetime Warranty but is covered by our standard One Year warranty.
How the Lifetime Warranty works:
To qualify for the Warranty you must fill out the warranty registration card which came with your system and mail it (with your original sales receipt) to D.T. Systems within 30 days of purchase.
There is no charge for parts or labor for the first year on any of our lifetime warranted products.
When the product's labor warranty expires after the first year, there will be a normal labor charge for any repair under the lifetime warranty program should your system be in need of service. Labor charges will range from $35 to $110 depending on 1) the system model, and 2) the severity of the repair needed.
Any defective manufactured part or parts that need replacement will be free during the lifetime warranty period.

SportDOG Brand Two Year Warranty
All parts and labor are covered under warranty for the first two years of the life of the product. Thereafter, there is a minimal service charge for the repair or replacement of the product. Misuse, loss, damage by pet, or improper handling is not covered and may void your warranty. SportDOG Brand will not pay for loss of time, inconvenience, loss of use of your product, or any incidental or consequential damages. Proof of purchase is required to determine time period covered under warranty. Warranty is voided if product is resold or purchased from an online auction site or other non-authorized dealer. Please register your product in our database by mailing in the registration card or register your product online.
WHAT IS COVERED: Radio Systems Corporation d/b/a SportDOG Brand (hereinafter referred to as "SportDOG Brand") warrants to the original retail consumer purchaser, and not any other purchaser or subsequent owner, that its SportDOG Brand product, when subject to normal and proper use, will be free from defects in material or workmanship for a period of two (2) years from the purchase date. An "original retail consumer purchaser" is a person or entity who originally purchases the product, or a gift recipient of a new product that is unopened and in its original packaging. When serviced by SportDOG Brand Customer Service, SportDOG Brand covers labor and parts for the first two years of ownership; after the second year, a service or upgrade charge will apply relative to replacement of the product, with new or refurbished items at SportDOG Brand's sole discretion. The limited warranty is non-transferrable and shall automatically terminate if the original retail consumer purchaser resells the SportDOG Brand product or transfers the property on which the SportDOG Brand product is installed. In the event of defect, these are your exclusive remedies.
PROPER PRODUCT USE: This product is designed only for use with domesticated animals; do not use this product for any other purpose. However, the specific temperament of your animal may not work with this product. We recommend that you do not use this product if your animal is aggressive. If you are unsure whether this product is appropriate for your animal, please consult with your veterinarian or certified trainer before you use this product. Please see the instruction manual for additional important information.
WHAT IS NOT COVERED: This non-transferrable limited warranty does not provide protection against, and SportDOG Brand will have no liability under this non-transferrable limited warranty for any damage to or defects in the products caused by any animal, loss of product(s), failure, defect or damage caused by events and situations beyond normal operating conditions, including, but not limited to: commercial use, misuse, abuse, neglect, improper installation or installation not in accordance with SportDOG Brand's instructions, use of non-SportDOG Brand accessories, impacts of foreign objects, acts of God, abnormal or improper use, improper storage, attempted repair or service by anyone other than SportDOG Brand Customer Service, accident, alteration, defects in or failure of the surface the SportDOG Brand product is installed in or upon, discoloration or other damage caused by pollution, sunlight, other environmental conditions, mold, dirt, mildew, or exposure to harmful chemicals and any other cause not involving manufacturing defects in the SportDOG Brand product.
Under no circumstances will SportDOG Brand be liable for any non-SportDOG Brand labor charges or any expenses whatsoever in connection with the removal, repair or installation of either the original or replacement component(s) relative to in-ground fence installation, and other permanent, semi-permanent, or fixture type installations on the consumer purchaser's property.
REGISTERING THE PRODUCT: Within thirty (30) days of purchase, please go to www.sportdog.com to register your purchase. A sales receipt shall be required to obtain warranty coverage. Please keep this information in a safe place.
MAKING A WARRANTY CLAIM: To obtain warranty service, call the SportDOG Brand Customer Care Center. In the United States or Canada, 1-800-732-0144; in Australia, 1800 786 608; in New Zealand, 0800 543 054.
Pursuant to this non-transferrable limited warranty, SportDOG Brand will replace the part with a new or refurbished part. This non-transferrable limited warranty will then apply to either the new or refurbished part for the remainder of the original non-transferrable limited warranty period.
DISCLAIMERS: Replacement as provided under this non-transferrable limited warranty is the exclusive remedy of the consumer. Neither labor to remove the part nor labor to install the refurbished or replaced part is covered.
This non-transferrable limited warranty is in lieu of all other express warranties. SportDOG Brand expressly disclaims and excludes all other warranties, express or implied, including without limitation, the warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. SportDOG Brand also disclaims and excludes all liability for incidental, consequential, punitive, direct, indirect, special or any other damages arising out of or connected with the purchase, use or misuse of this product or for the breach of any express or implied warranties or breach of contract or otherwise. Purchaser assumes all risks and liabilities from the use or misuse of this product. SportDOG Brand does not authorize any other person or agent to make any other express or implied warranties.
Furthermore, SportDOG Brand will not be liable for any loss, damage or injury resulting from delay in delivery of replacement parts or for any failure by SportDOG Brand to perform covered repair work due to circumstances beyond SportDOG Brand's control.
GOVERNING LAW: This non-transferrable limited warranty shall be governed by the law of the State of Tennessee, U.S.A., and by the laws of the United States of America, excluding their conflicts of laws principles. Furthermore, the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods is hereby excluded in its entirety from application to this nontransferrable limited warranty. Jurisdiction and venue shall be exclusive to the courts of Knox County, Tennessee.
These warranties give you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state or country to country. Some states or countries do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.
