8.1 -- Training Your Dog: Place, Heel with Halt, Sit and Down --Session One Place:
1.With your dog’s bed 5 feet away, give him the place command. Step towards the bed and guide your dog, with the leash, if needed.
2.Walk a 6-foot perimeter around the bed for 3 minutes, returning to your dog to praise and reward him every 20 seconds.
3.When walking the perimeter, reverse your direction every time you reward him.
4. If your dog steps off the bed, guide him back, using your Remote Collar and leash.
Heel with Halt:
1.Walk with your dog in heel position, slowing your pace several feet, before coming to a stop.
2. Just before stopping, give the command “Sit.” Immediately follow with a “Pop,” if your dog does not sit.
3. Praise and reward, once your dog is sitting in the heel position.
4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for 5 minutes.
TRIPLE CROWN TIPS Do not attempt to reposition your dog once he is sitting. If he is not in the heel position, repeat steps 1 through 3. Use your left hand to guide him into the proper position, while giving him an upward Pop, with the leash in your right hand. Proper heeling position. Sit command with a “Pop.” Praise and Reward. If necessary, use your left hand to guide dog into position while switching leash to right hand. |
