| 1.2 -- Training Your Dog: Come, Release word, Sit --Session Two Sit:
1.With your dog on your left side, hold the leash in your right approximately 1 foot from the snap. Hold a small treat in your right hand between your thumb and forefinger.
2. Place your left hand at the base of your dog's tail, while holding the treat slightly in front of your dog's nose, keeping his head up.
3. Give the command "Sit;” raise your right hand upward while gently pushing down on your dog's hindquarters with your left hand.
4.When your dog sits, immediately praise and reward him.
5. Give your release word within 5 seconds.
6. Perform 10 repetitions, sitting for 5 seconds each time.
TRIPLE CROWN TIPS
Say your command once, using a calm tone of voice. If your dog breaks the sit before you release him, repeat the command "Sit," guiding him back into position, then release and repeat the exercise before rewarding him. When practicing this exercise, your dog should receive praise and reward only after the exercise has been performed correctly. Do not allow him to get up until released. An alternate method of teaching sit is to place your left hand at the base of your dog s tail and slide your left hand under the rump after giving the command Sit. Place your left hand at the base of dog’s tail. Note hand placement. Gently push on hindquarters. Note position of head and treat. Praise and Reward. |
