The Drive Track 70 is NOT a standalone dog tracking system. You must also have an Astro 430 or Alpha 100 tracking system.
The DT 70 does not connect to cartop or other external antenna systems. If you need a longer range antenna, it will still have to be connected to your Astro or Alpha handheld.
The DT 70 will show your dogs on the map, but does not show the map from your screen. This means if you are using the Birdseye map feature on your Astro or Alpha handheld it will not show the satellite imagery on the DT 70 screen.
You can get in and out of your truck while running the DT 70 system. The Bluetooth signal will work within 50 feet of the unit in most situations (it is a radio signal so range will depend on external factors). If you get out of range the DT 70 will stop showing your dogs. Once you return the Astro or Alpha handheld into the range of the DT 70, the signal will get picked up again and it will resume showing your dogs on the screen.
One major thing to keep in mind is that while the DT 70 will run without being plugged in, it is NOT designed for in-field use.
The DT 70 is NOT waterproof or water resistant.
It is NOT designed to take the normal abuse that the Garmin dog tracking handhelds receive on a regular basis.
We recommend that you leave this bad boy protected in your truck.
