Steve Says: Because of where we live (North Mississippi), I really don't get to use dog heaters that much. We just don't get enough cold weather down here. If you have a good dog house in Central or North Mississippi, you really don't need a
dog house heater.
But if you live in Minnesota or Montana or have a dog that just "likes its conveniences," this is a really neat product. Also, older dogs are just like older people and need extra care, so kennel heaters are great for them, too.
The second generation Hound Heater is a little more sophisticated dog house heater. Unlike the original Hound Heater, this one comes with a built-in thermostat. You can set it and when it gets down to a certain temperature, it will turn itself on. When it heats up to that temperature, it will cut itself off. On the older Hound Heaters, you had to buy another product to get this feature.
You generally want to mount this dog house heater on the back wall with a little distance between the side walls and the ceiling. There needs to be a little space in between the heater and the walls. Also, you don't want to mount it where the dog is going to lay on top of it or roll over on it. It needs to be up above the dog.
The Hound Heater needs to be plugged into an electrical outlet. Directions and a heat shield are also included.
PLEASE NOTE: The biggest thing you want to keep in mind is that you want to make sure the electrical cord is NOT
where the dog can get to it, especially if you have a chewer.

Family pet. Someone dumped a Lab pup off at our house, and of course we took him in, best thing we have ever done outside of taking in a Brussell Griffon, but about the heater , it is just what you need for your outside pets, they can keep their big comfy beds and the heater is attached to side of their house, comes on when needed, shuts off when not needed, doesn't burn him when he touches it, I would highly recommend this. And Rufus loves his new home with his heater..

. Family pet. So far in Richmond, VA we have only had 3 very cold nights/days and on those days my cat has been in his warm house thanks to the Hound Heater. It works great and Truman loves it. I love it because I know he is warm and the best part the thermostat is not on a timer so I know the heat will stay on. Thanks Steve.

. Owns 2 dogs. Family pet. My dog house is over-sized to accommodate 2 dogs so the heater doesnt keep the house as warm as I had hoped. It will generally keep the internal temp of the house at around 20 degrees warmer than the exterior temperature. Most of the winter that is just fine. Its only the coldest nights that I wish it kept the house a little warmer. I probably need a 2nd heater to keep the space at a more consistent temp, but the cost is prohibitive. I wish there was a unit that was larger for bigger dog houses. All in all I like this heater it does what its supposed to do.

Tools Required: You will need a measuring device, drill, 1 1/8" wood bit, screw driver and six wood screws (not included).
Step 1 -- Tape the Hound Heater mounting template in any corner of the dog house. We suggest mounting it away from the entrance.
Step 2 -- Place the bit in the center of the template's black circle.
Step 3 -- Drill a hole all the way through the wall.
Step 4 -- Carefully feed the cord all the way through the previously drilled hole making sure the cord is not kinked.
Step 5 -- Mount the Hound Heater in an upright position using four sturdy wood screws. The "C" on "Caution Hot" is
the top of the unit.
Step 6 -- Mount the Hound Heater Heat Shield about 2 inches above the top of the Hound Heater. The purpose of the shield is to deflect the rising heat and disperse it more efficiently in your pet's house. It will also protect the ceiling from getting too warm.
Step 7 -- Set the thermostat to the desired temperature for your pet. (Medium setting is approximately 45-50 degrees F)
Step 8 -- Plug the unit into a GFI outlet.
NOTE -- The Hound Heater Deluxe Dog House Furnace is designed for wall mounting only. Floor or ceiling mounting can result in permanent damage to your Hound Heater. For maximum effectiveness, it is important that your dog house is insulated and preferably has a door or flap.
