Retriev-R Trainer INSTRUCTIONS from the MANUFACTURER, SPECIALTY PRODUCTS

The Retriev-R Trainer is a practical aid for training retrievers. Training dummies designed for use with it can be power thrown two to three times farther than hand thrown dummies. They are useful on land or water. Extra dummies can be used to throw doubles, triples, etc. The Retriev-R Trainer uses blank power charges for throwing power. The accompanying report eliminates the need of a blank pistol.

BLANK POWER CHARGES / DUMMY LAUNCHER LOADS

Choose your power charge based on the distance you wish to throw the retriever training dummy. Use only those charges / loads supplied to you by your Retriev-R Trainer retailer:
Throw of approx. 150' – Dummy Launcher Light Load – Color: Green, #3
Throw of approx. 200' – Dummy Launcher Medium Load – Color: Yellow, #4
Throw of approx. 300' – Dummy Launcher Heavy Load – Color: Red, #5

RRT WARNING

**WITH THE DUMMY YOU ARE FIRING WHAT AMOUNTS TO A 6 TO 8 OZ BULLET. A HEAVY RECOIL AND LOUD REPORT SHOULD BE EXPECTED. IT IS THEREFORE RECOMMENDED THAT YOU USE EYE AND EAR PROTECTION AS WELL AS WEAR A HEAVY LEATHER GLOVE WHEN FIRING.

PREPARATION FOR FIRING THE RETRIEVER TRAINER

Place a retriever training dummy over the barrel and slide it down. (The distance of the throw can be controlled by how far the dummy is placed down the barrel of the retriever trainer. All the way for maximum distance, less for shorter throws.

Open the RRT breech by pressing the thumb release/latch located in the pivot open exposing the open chamber for receiving the blank power charge. Fully seat the charge in the chamber as you would a single shot rifle or shotgun. Close the unit and press the thumb latch in to assure that it is fully closed.

LAUNCHING TRAINING DUMMIES WITH THE RETRIEVER TRAINER

Firmly grasp the launcher in one hand with the thumb latch oriented toward the shoulder of the holding arm. The heel of the holding hand should be facing the thumb latch and the fingers should be wrapped firmly around the grip. (The thumb will be closest to the Pull Knob.)

Bend the elbow slightly and position the launcher about waist high and one foot from your body. Aim at about 45 degrees from horizontal off to your side toward the target area. Pull the firinig knob back to it's fully extended position and release it to launch.

NOTE: Holding the launcher in the manner described above allows your arm to more easily absorb the recoil caused by firing.

To eject the spent power charge, release the thumb latch and while holding the grip in one hand and the barrel in the other, mildly snap the ejector up and down to loosen the spent round.

You can now remove the cartridge with your fingers.

NOTE: Never "dry fire" your Retriev-R Trainer. Doing so will make removal of spent rounds very difficult.

RETRIEVER TRAINER DUMMIES

The Retriever Trainer Dummy Launcher's "standard dummy" is made of canvas covered foam with a steel insert tube for placing it in "throwing/launching" position over the launcher barrel. This dummy has the right texture for your dog's mouth & teeth. It is recommended for land use only.

Molded plastic RRT dummies are also available. They are molded from high density foam and are shorter and have an oval shape. They can provide greater distance on your throws and are also recommended for water use. The canvas and molded dummies are available in red or white. Before starting on Retriev-R Trainer dummies, your dog should be trained to "soft mouth". A "hard mouth" dog can destroy almost anything including a training dummy in a short time.

Note: Specialty Products uses a kydex (plastic) washer to assemble our training dummies as the use of metal washers can cause harm to your dog's mouth.

RETRIEVER TRAINER MAINTENANCE

Thoroughly clean: the barrel, chamber and hinge areas with a good gun cleaning solvent after each use. A small amount of gun oil to the hinge areas after cleaning will help assure smooth operation. Cleaning of the chamber can be enhanced by using a .22 caliber wire brush. Insert only to ¼" past shell depth.

Also, thoroughly clean and dry the inside of the dummy tube. Then spray a thin coat of WD-40 or silicon inside to prevent rusting. A rubber "O" ring in a groove near the outer end of the barrel provides a seal for the release gases of the power charge. This "O" ring will wear causing some of the gases to escape and thereby reducing the flight distance of the dummy. Replacement "O" rings are available from your Retriev-R Trainer retailer.

RETRIEV-R TRAINER WARRANTY

The Retriev-R Trainer Launcher is guaranteed by the manufacturer to be free of defective workmanship and materials for a period of THREE YEARS FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE. This guarantee is void if other than the recommended power charges are used or if the product is not used in conformance with these instructions.

Retriev-R Trainer Dummies are guaranteed for a period of ONE YEAR FORM DATE OF PURCHASE against "Blow-out" (Outer cover separating from inner tube.)
