The Classic 70 G3 EXP is the current version of the original Tri-Tronics A1 70 built back in the late 1960's. It has been one of the most popular Tri-Tronics collars for almost 40 years because of its simple design and ease of use. One button operation makes it a very simple and effective collar for all of your basic problem solving issues.
The Classic 70 G3 EXP is popular among Retriever owners, birddog folks, houndsmen, beaglers (this is a great collar for stopping the deer chasers), and basic obedience trainers who want a simple to operate and incredibly durable remote training collar system.
With the EXP feature, you can purchase the Classic 70 G3 EXP as a one dog unit and add a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th dog at any time by purchasing extra collars. Upgrade when you need to control more than one dog at a time!

happy with the product Reviewed: February 10, 2011
By: orkie22My husband and I purchased the Tri-tronics Classic 70 G3 Exp along with a 2nd collar and receiver. We have one large lab (5 years old) and one smaller (40 lbs) mixed breed that's about 1 year. We live on 20 acres and want to try to keep the dogs from wandering too far because of the livestock neighboring our land. We have no intention of using the dogs to hunt. We have had the smaller dog for about 4 months and haven't spent a lot of time training him outside because of the cold weather in Montana so I was surprised at how quickly he seems to have picked up the training. I followed what the video said to do (I do wish the video was a bit longer and had more information) for a few days but what we really want is to have the dogs come home when they hear the tone and so far that's really working. Both dogs seem to have picked up on the training very quickly and I'm happy with the product. I also hope to use it while we are camping this summer.

The hardcase needs to have stirofoam or something in it so the collars want move around. Controller needs a latch so you could put in on your side or belt instead of around your neck or both so you could use it either way.

The Classic 70 works very well and is a great tool for communicating with the dog. The older style Tri-Tronics Beeper has been unreliable for me and I find the newer style to be hit and miss when I try to activate it, but I don't want to give up on having a beeper as I find it, when it works properly, to be a valued asset.

We have had the Sport Combo, then moved to the Classic 70. My dad was so impressed with our system that he also purchased the Classic 70!

My biggest complaint about the Classic 70 is that for my particular dog(60lbs Drahthaar), #1 setting is not enough and #2 setting will cause him to vocalize. I bought the Classic 70 after having owned a Field 90 G2 EXP. My recommendation is to spend the extra money and buy the Field 90 with it's high/low stimulation option.

We have 5 dogs (3 beagles, one german shorthair, and one terrier mutt), we have collars for all of them and the Classic 70 is great because we only need one unit for all the dogs. We did have some trouble with the unit staying charged, but after returning the product to Tri-tronics, they replaced it with a new one at no charge and we have not had any further trouble. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is hunting or training dogs or just wants a little more control.

I have only had one problem with my classic 70, which was the transmitter stopped charging. I sent it to Tri-Tronics and they fixed it for free! (it was still under warranty) I wish I could ween my dog away from using the collar, but I don't have to use the shock settings hardly at all anymor. The warning tone is enough to get a response. Overall, for my dogs safety, using a training collar has been the best thing. He knows the commands, but decides to disregard sometimes, because he's onto something more interesting. Using the tone breaks his attention so he can follow direction. It has been a really great training tool for us. Duke gets excited to wear it, because he knows that means we are going somewhere fun.

This is the best money you can spend on a dog. Mine had the problem of wanting to run for hours, then come back when they chose to..Since I trained them with this collar, I can take them anywhere without a leash and can camp without tieing them. They do not run anymore, and they stay at my heels when walking.I can even take them to the Vet's without a leash!
I had tried several other collars, but this has been the answer..Very affordable, and Steve will work with you should anything arise..Remember to train your dog THE RIGHT WAY to get the right results!!

I've had wonderful success with this training tool. My dog was given up twice by families who could no longer provide patience and training for him. He is extremely noise sensitive and could not be used as a hunter. He has learned so much in the last two years since he's been with me. He's gone from not knowing how to sit, to knowing a ton of hand signals and voice commands. His problem area has been when there are distractions, he will hear the command or see the signal, but choose to disregard it. This can be extremely dangerous since I live about an eighth mile from the road. With the collar I can give him the warning beep which breaks his concentration and helps him listen to the command. I don't have to use the electrical stimulation much at all anymore unless its a dire emergency and he isn't responding. I would really like to be able to ween him off of using the collar completely, but its sort of like a safety net in case of emergency. I have also incorporated using treats to reinforce his good behavior to help make it more concrete. I don't know what I would have done without the use of this wonderful piece of equipment. The battery lasts forever it seems and I haven't had much trouble with the device, except once the transmitter wouldn't charge, so Tritronics took it and serviced it free of charge. All in all, its a great buy and has given me piece of mind in a lot of places, since my dog goes everywhere with me.

I have 2 black labs, one is a hunting dog, one I hope is a competition dog (not e-collar trained yet). I used this collar last year in a similar situation on another competition dog. The classic 70 is a great transmitter, but it lacks the nick feature I need for a minor correction. Simply pressing the button quickly is not fast enough. As far as training gun dogs, it's very useful. I am currently looking for another E-collar, which features the nick option. If I was using it strictly for gundogs, it would be an excellent rating. This is not really a competition E-collar but can be used, so I would rate it as good.

I traded in the Classic 70. The low end stimulation was too strong. I now have a pro model and it is a much better device. I think the C-70 should be discontinued
The Tri-Tronics Classic 70 G3 EXP is a smaller, lighter, and improved version of the Tri-Tronics 70 G2 & XLS series collars. The collar replaces the popular Field 70 and is the modern version of such Tri-Tronics classic collars as the original A1 70 and the Judge. It is a full-size, full-range remote training collar with Tri-Tronics' reliability. At lower levels, its continuous stimulation can be used for teaching yardwork/obedience and at higher levels it can be used to overcome strong distractions and/or to stop chasing. The versatility of this model has been increased significantly with the ability to set the variable intensity level with a dial on the transmitter. This allows you to easily and quickly adjust the intensity (1-6) to the dog's temperament and the training situation.
With the EXP feature, you can purchase the Classic 70 G3 EXP as a one dog unit and add a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th dog at any time by purchasing extra collars. Upgrade when you need to control more than one dog at a time!

Tri-Tronics Classic 70 EXP G3 Range
Collar range up to 1 mile -- maximum range is based on "line of sight." This means that to get the full range out of a system there should be nothing between the transmitter and the receiver and the terrain should be flat and open. This isn't going to happen in most places that we spend time with our dogs. The range on all of the systems that we carry depends on training conditions, including weather, terrain, and the presence of cover.
Tri-Tronics G3 systems feature a "Pulsating Continuous Stimulation" that increases the system's ability to reach maximum distance in heavy cover and difficult terrain situations. Because this is a "broken" signal instead of a single transmission it does a better job of reaching the receiver at maximum distance. The pulses are so rapid that it gives the feeling of the old style continuous stimulation but increases the transmitter's ability to reach maximum distance.
Remember, too much range will never hurt, but too little can be a problem.
