Summary: Hi, the collar works ok. Can't wait till you modify it, so i can strap it on his butt. |
Steve Says: The Tritronics Sport Basic G3 replaces two of our best selling systems. This collar combines all the features of the Sport 50 and the Sport 60 plus it has all of the G3 and EXP features. The Sport Basic G3 2 dog system replaces the Multi Sport 2.
A two dog system allows you to control two dogs independently from one transmitter using the color coded Dog selector dial that matches the colors of the collar straps.
Each dog's stimulation is independent from the other dog's and you cannot correct both dogs at the same time. You can move back and forth between the dogs quickly at the times that both dogs need correction. Click here to read my article on using a multi dog system.
This is a great collar for all of your problem solving needs for two dogs and will also work great as a training collar.
The Sport Basic has 10 levels of both momentary and continuous stimulation plus a tone feature. The wide choice of stimulation levels makes it one of the best collars on the market, especially for folks looking for a high quality, durable system with all of the reliability of the Tri-Tronics name.
The Sport Basic also has the EXP feature now found in all of the high end Tri-Tronics Field and Pro series collars, allowing you to purchase a two dog system and add an additional dog at any point in the future if your needs change. No more need to worry if purchasing a two dog system will cause you regret down the road when you add a third dog to your household.
The Sport series collars have been our best-selling dog training collars since they came out several years ago as a replacement for the original Tri-Tronics Sportsman collar.
If you are in need of a remote - beeper training system for you bird dog or Upland retriever or flushing dog, check out the Sport Upland.
The Sport Basic G3 is a good choice for working with any breed of dog. Ten intensity levels can be quickly adjusted with the dial on the side of the transmitter. Teach yardwork/obedience and enforce known commands with lower levels of stimulation. Use higher levels to stop unwanted chasing or to overcome strong distractions.
This is a GREAT collar and all of the G3 improvements make it even better.

By: Melanie Jackson3 dogs: Lab mix/Pit Mix. Pet. After an initial training period, I only need to use this electronic collar on my dogs occaisionally to keep their bad behavior in check. A quick reminder on the lowest setting keeps them from chasing deer, our cats or other things when we are taking our daily off-leash walks through the wood or our neighborhood. I highly recommend this collar. Our dogs are much happier because we aren't afraid to take them off-lead anymore!5 705 Sport Basic 2 Reviewed: May 9, 2011

By: Denny Allen from OH2 dogs: Mixed. Pet. Two dogs that wanted to wander (and almost get hit by trucks on the road) now stay close to home. I just now used the trainer to get the dogs away from a dead raccoon. Each in turn jumped away from the dead animal and looked back at it as if they were thinking, "That thing just bit me!" Then they trotted back to the house. With the busy school year we haven't used the trainer to teach them as much as we will once summer gets here. But the ability to reach out and enforce a command is priceless! Better that they get hit by a few electrons than a speeding truck. If they are far away a touch of the buzzer tells them to come. If they don't obey the buzzer, the electrons bring them in.
We are about to install an invisible fence so we don't have to be present to make sure they don't wander off. (Their job is to keep the deer out of our gardens and shrubbery, so they have to be free at night.) I would suggest that Tri-tronics develop a combination collar that will work with both the hand-held transmitter and a fence transmitter. That would have saved us some money, no doubt, and certainly would be more convenient for us and more comfortable for the dogs than using two collars. Another suggestion for very large yards or farms would be to design a unit that uses a GPS so a trainer could walk it around the perimeter of a large area (such as our fields) to program the boundary. Then when the dogs approached the boundary the GPS would trigger the correction. That would eliminate the invisible fence. (The invisible fence wire can be buried only about 4-5" deep, not deep enough to get below the plow, meaning that I can't let the dogs into my fields).
Thanks for a well-designed and well-built product!5 865 Sport Basic 2Dog Reviewed: March 15, 2011

By: David Goodall from SC3 dogs: Black Lab, Great Dane, American Bulldog. Pet. Having multiple dogs, different spieces and age differences created special problems for me. When I would correct one, the other two would also react negatively to my voice. Another problem was they would watch each other and if 1 disobeyed, the others would also. After purchasing the Tri-tronics sport basic from Steve,(which cames complete with 2 collars and controller) I could speak to one dog, correcting his/her mistake without disturbing the others. When I saw what a difference the Tri-Tronics collars made, I purchased a third collar. Its easy to switch back and forth with the controller. The dogs respond instantly. No repeat commands. They used to be kinda wild at times, I had no control!! But when you put the collars on them, they know to settle down and obey.
They mind now, even when they dont have the collars on. All I have to do is show them the controller. It has made all the difference in the world. I tried a cheaper system from another provider, and I quickly sent it back. It broke after 3 hours. I would highly recommend the Tri-Tronics sport basic. My dogs, appreciate my purchase of the Tri-Tronics Sport Basic. In a calm voice, no frustration, and a short period, they responded to my basic training commands, that all dogs need to obey. 5 777 Tri-tronics G3 Sport Basic 2-dog COMPLETE 02-24-2011 Reviewed: May 9, 2011

By: Cheryl Brown3 dogs: 1 GSP, 2 Lab mixes. Pet. My tri-tronics G3 sport basic system is fantastic! It is now very simple to train two of my dogs at the same time. I was having some problems, especially with my 4 year old Lab mix, who was chasing and barking obsessively at horses, cows and calves. If I did not come up with a solution, the owner of the cows and horses was going to shoot him. I was nervous, at first, to try this system, but it exceeded all expectations. The directions were very simple and easy to follow. In less than a week, the Lab mix and the 1 year old GSP who was picking up his bad habits, would stop in their tracks and wait for me to give the commands for what to do next. After a few short weeks they were both able to obey all of my commands in the middle of a pasture of cows and horses. This is a fantastic training method because I can quickly and easily correct 2 dogs at the same time, from 100's of yards away, and it doesn't hurt them at all! This is a phenominal product that has changed my life! Thanks Steve! 5 890 Tri-tronics G3 Sport Basic 2-dog COMPLETE 03-11-2011 Reviewed: May 9, 2011

By: Michael DiMare from PA2 dogs: Two Beagle Pug Mixes. Pet. Steve-
I have two pug beagle mixes that love to hunt like beagles do. I take them daily to a large field that has no fences and alot of activity with people and dogs. I had my dogs trained to stay close to me without distarctions but was unable to have full control of them with distractions suchs as people or dogs. I decided to purchase the collars for this exact purpose. The collars did not disappoint! The first training session they attempted to run towards people and dogs and I gave a stern "No" followed by the correction and both dogs stopped in their tracks. The have not run after another person since. The collars are great! They are worth every dollar I spent on them. Having the confidence to walk them without leashes anywhere and knowing I have full control over them makes me enjoy walking with them and allows them the freedom to run everywhere. Thank you so much for a great product. 5 950 Tri-tronics G3 Sport Basic 2-dog COMPLETE 10-18-2010 Reviewed: May 10, 2011

WATERPROOF Collar and Transmitter! Perfect for Retrievers, the Tritronics Sport Basic G3 2 dog system is an improved version of the Tri-Tronics Sport 50 and Sport 60 and Multi Sport 2 series collars.
It also replaces the Multi Sport 3 since you can now buy a two dog system and add an additional EXP collar at any time allowing you to control up to 3 dogs from one transmitter.
The transmitter has a dog selector dial that allows you to switch between Dog 1 (black) and Dog 2 (red). The Sport Basic G3 2 Dog is designed for working two dogs from one transmitter.
The Sport Basic is a versatile remote training collar and a good choice for all-around use with ten levels of continuous and momentary stimulation instantly selectable at the transmitter. This means that you can instantly adjust intensity whenever distractions increase.
The G3 versions of the Sport collars are a drastic improvement over previous Sport products because of the wider choice of stimulation offered now. The earlier Sport models only had 6 intensity levels and did not work as a "training collar" with many of the more sensitive dogs. Adding 4 additional levels to the stimulation setup has increased the spread on this collar to a wide enough range (slowly increasing the levels as you go up) to make the G3 Basic a much better remote trainer.
Continuous stimulation allows you to control the length of the correction based on how long you hold the button down.
Momentary stimulation is designed for delivering a quick pre-set duration of stimulation (less than 1 second) for enforcing commands the dog already knows and for correcting behavior.
The best-selling Tritronics Sport Basic G3 is a good choice for working with any breed of dog.
Ten intensity levels can be quickly adjusted with the dial on the side of the transmitter. Teach yardwork/obedience and enforce known commands with lower levels of stimulation. Use higher levels to stop unwanted chasing or to overcome strong distractions.
System Specifications:
- Transmitter weight: .3 lbs
- Collar weight with Receiver: .4 lbs
- Collar length without Receiver: 27"
- Collar length with Receiver: 25 1/4"

Sport Basic EXP G3 2-dog Overview:
The Sport Basic G3 has the high quality and unmatched performance of high end Tri-Tronics products at an affordable price. The Sport Basic G3 is a good choice for all of your problem solving and Basic G3 training needs.
The wider spread of stimulation levels in this collar allow you to find the correct level for your dog in any training situation.
Now with EXP technology. Add additional dogs to your Sport Transmitter as your needs change.
Sport Basic EXP G3 2-dog Transmitter (Remote)
The Sport Basic G3 features a radical departure from what Tri-Tronics has had in the original Sport Series products. Smaller and ergonomically shaped, the G3 transmitter fits your hand better and is more comfortable to use and carry.
Another feature is the 1 1/2 inch integrated transmitter antenna. Previous models required a 3 to 3 1/2 inch antenna to get the same range as this system. Lowering the antenna has drastically reduced the overall size of the transmitters with no loss in range. This a great improvement considering the number of replacement antennas that we sell each year. You can't loose or break this one.
The Sport G3 transmitters are fully waterproof and submersible, these systems are prefect for training in wet and raining conditions with no worry about damaging your training gear.
Another feature on this transmitter is the sure-grip rubber coating. It feels great in your hand and is not slick or slippery when wet.
The Sport Basic has three black waterproof rubber buttons that control the stimulation and tone feature. The bottom black button instantly controls 10 levels of momentary stimulation. The middle black button (with raised nub so you can feel the difference) instantly controls 10 levels of continuous stimulation. The top black button instantly controls the non-stimulation tone feature.
Stimulation levels are controlled using the ISS Dial (Intensity Selector Switch) on the top right hand side of the transmitter. It allows for true one handed operation using your right or left hand. You can easily change the stimulation level with you thumb and also use your thumb to press any of the three buttons.
Directly below the ISS dial is the color coded "Dog Selector" dial. Select between Dog 1 (black) and Dog 2 (red).
This dial allows you to select between three color coded positions that match the three color strap colors (black, red and blue) if you decide to add an additional dog to your system.
Another advantage to the Dog selector dial is that it allows you to set your transmitter on a higher level but still cut it off to avoid accidental corrections. For example, if you have a dog that likes to chase other animals, cars or people in off leash situations, you will need to have your transmitter on a high level to stop him. Instead of leaving the dial set on the high level and accidentally correcting him, use the dog selector dial to change over to another collar that you are not using. When you need to correct the dog simply change the DSD to the correct collar color and make the correction. after you are done, move the dial back to the other color and never worry about an additional correction.
You can also do this with your two dog system by using the blue strap instead of the red strap. Simply "marry" the second dog to the blue (bottom) position and leave the dog 1 (black) in the top position. When you want the transmitter "cut off", move the dial to the middle - red position and you will not stimulate either dog if you accidentally press a button.
When you want to correct either dog simply move the dial up or down and make your correction. When you are done, move it back to the middle.
The G3 transmitter uses a replaceable nine volt battery. Some folks look at this as a bad thing, preferring a rechargeable transmitter, but we find that even the folks that use these transmitters every day get over six months of training from one battery. Average users can expect to get close to one year from a battery. The transmitter features a low battery indicator that tells you when it's time to change it out. When the battery gets low the LED light on the transmitter will start to flash when you use the continuous or tone button. With a fresh battery the light will glow solid when you press these buttons.

- Instantly change stimulation intensity (+/-levels) from the transmitter
- Tactile dial with clicks between levels allows you to raise and lower the stimulation level by feel without ever having to take you eyes off your dog
- Insulated contact points to ensure consistent and reliable stimulation in the water
- Interchangeable contact points for long or short coated dogs
Sport Basic EXP G3 2-dog Range
Collar range up to 1/2 mile.
Maximum range is based on "line of sight." This means that to get the full range out of a system there should be nothing between the transmitter and the receiver and the terrain should be flat and open. This isn't going to happen in most places that we spend time with our dogs.
The range on all of the systems that we carry depends on training conditions, including weather, terrain, and the presence of cover.
Remember, too much range will never hurt, but too little can be a problem.
NOTE: The G3 collars feature a slightly different kind of continuous stimulation that will increase the systems ability to reach maximum distance in heavy cover and difficult terrain situations.
The Pulsating Continuous Stimulation on the G3 collars transforms the old style continuous stimulation from a single impulse to a rapid succession of pulses. Because this is a "broken" signal instead of a single transmission it does a better job of reaching the receiver at maximum distance.
The pulses are so rapid that it gives the feeling of the old style continuous stimulation but increases the transmitters ability to reach maximum distance.
