Steve Says:

The idea behind breaking scents is to make the scent something that your dog smells all the time. That way when he runs across it in the field he has no interest in following the smell. The goal is to make your dog bored with the smell of the animal.

Keep a piece of scent-soaked cloth, sponge, or a scent pad attached to your dog's collar. When I used breaking scents on my bird dogs, I just tied a piece of an old wash cloth to the dog's collar. We refreshed it every day for a couple of weeks. Some dogs require more time.

The downside to breaking scents is that they will not stop a dog from sight chasing, but they will stop the interest in following a deer's trail. If you are having issues with your dogs running deer when they see them, you really need to go with a remote training collar. I recommend these units:

Garmin Tri-tronics PRO 70
Garmin Tri-Tronics PRO Trashbreaker

"Great product. Have been using it for years"

Great product. Have been using it for years. I have broke my rabbit dogs from running deer with it. If used correctly it is very effective.

"I've been using this scent for some time now."

By: Neal Veillon From LA

I've been using this scent for some time now. My hounds have yet to run a deer. Each rabbit season I soak rags and leave it around the kennels. Works for me.

"They no longer run deer!"

By: Andre Guidry From LA

I put the deer breaking scent on some rags and tied them to my dogs cages. They got so tired of smelling that scent that when I took them rabbit hunting they avoided deer all together. They no longer run deer!

Customer Review #24315

By: Joseph Letizia From NJ

Tells you to put on dogs collar, but they liked the attention to much. Then tried putting it in their house and on bedding every day for weeks. The dogs smelled like the scent. Three times out seems worse than before use of this product.

Product Rating: 2 out of 5-stars.
