The NEW Garmin Alpha 200i takes everything we love about the Alpha 100 and squeezes it into a sleeker package with even more features.
All the way back in 2012, Garmin gave us the best-selling Garmin Alpha 100: the first-ever Garmin GPS tracking collar combined with a Tri-Tronics remote trainer. For the first time, you could track and train your dog using one handheld and one collar with the added versatility of a touchscreen.
Now after all these years, Garmin gives us their second-generation Alpha handheld: the 200i.
Bigger Screen:
The Alpha 200i features a larger 3.5" touchscreen compared to the Alpha 100's 3" screen, giving you more detail and better control.
Three Side Buttons:
In addition to the three front buttons carried over from the original Alpha 100, the new Alpha 200i adds three side buttons for improved usability.
More Internal Memory:
The Alpha 200i has 16 GB of internal memory. That's FOUR TIMES MORE than what was in the original Alpha 100. More memory means more detailed maps, more dog data, and more functionality.
Compass Pro View:
In addition to your dogs, you can now see the direction and distance to your truck and your friends' Alpha handhelds on the Compass Screen.
Built-in InReach Technology:
The Alpha 200i has a built-in InReach communicator, so in an emergency you can send interactive SOS alerts and two-way messages via the 100% global Iridium satellite network from anywhere in the world with no cellular service needed (satellite subscription required).
Some other cool new features of the Alpha 200i include:
Preloaded TopoActive Maps
Directly download BirdsEye satellite imagery to your Alpha
Barometric Altimeter
Hunt Metrics Data
shows each dog's hunting patterns and behaviors so you can keep them healthy and safe
Compatible with the Garmin Explore App and Website
for managing tracks, routes, and waypoints, as well as reviewing statistics from the field
The T5 MINI GPS Collar is designed for very small hunting dogs that have trouble wearing the larger, standard T5 collar.
It's a great choice for beagles, squirrel dogs, smaller flushing and pointing breeds, and terriers.
It weighs only 7 oz. and will fit dogs with a neck size as small as 9.5 inches. It is the exact same size and design as the Garmin PRO Trashbreaker collar.
Just like the standard T5, the MINI also has a top-mounted GPS antenna but with a shorter mount to fit smaller dogs better.
While the MINI T5 was built with smaller dogs in mind, it can be comfortably worn by larger dogs.
The only issue with larger dogs wearing the MINI T5 is the GPS antenna is not going to be in the ideal location. If your dog's neck is 16" or over, it will end up on the side of his neck instead of on top.
Perfect for Puppies
I recommend the MINI collars for anyone with young dogs. I always have a puppy or two around, and the regular Alpha collars are a bit much for them. The MINI collar is perfect for that young pup.
I really like the look and feel of the MINI collars, but they may not be right for you.
This collar is intended for small dogs. To reduce the collar size, Garmin had to sacrifice two vital features of any tracking collar -- Battery Life and Range.
When set to a 2.5 second update rate, the MINI collar has a 16-hour runtime vs. a 24-hour runtime on the regular T5 collar. 16 hours may be long enough for most hunting trips, but more battery life never hurts. Few things are as useless as a tracking and training collar with a dead battery.
The MINI collar has a line of sight range of only 4 miles vs. the 9-mile range of the regular T5 collar.
The MINI T5 costs the exact same amount as the regular T5, so there is no cost savings.
A dog of this size can easily carry the weight of the regular T5 collar (9.3 oz.), and the additional battery life alone is reason enough to opt for the regular collar.

Garmin ALPHA 200i + T5 MINI Range
The Garmin Alpha handheld and MINI collar have a "line of sight" range of up to 4 miles.
The Alpha handheld and dog GPS collar communicate using a VHF radio signal. To get the maximum range out of the system there needs to be nothing obstructing this signal.
Realistically, this won't happen in most places we spend time with our dogs, so the actual usable range will be MUCH less than 9 miles depending on hunting/training conditions, weather, terrain, presence of cover, etc.

We bought this combo for peace of mind when our GSP is in the field. It’s great knowing he’s safe. He’s gotten used to it so quickly! And the delivery time and customer service from Gun Dog Supply has been top notch.
I made the switch to the 200i/tt15 combo right before the 2020 pheasant season started. Glad I made the switch to gps. The 200i made it extremely easy. It’s easy to navigate, easy to setup and easy to use in the field. There is a very well made how to video that gundogsupply made if there is any kind of questions. Would recommend to anyone on the fence to switching!
ProsNice large screen
Bright easy to read screen in the field
Can personalize the training key sequence to what you want
Lock Screen
Compass view for your dogs/truck
ConsI wish there was a teather/clip included. For the price I think it very well could.

Great track & train
December 8, 2020
This was the first collar I got for my 6 month GSP puppy, I figured do it once and do it right. This thing gives a piece of mind for dogs that have full range and can get out of sight quickly. The ability to change the top training buttons has made personalizing the system a piece of cake as I have been introducing tones and vibrations, but when stimulation becomes necessary switching some buttons will be a piece of cake.

Glad I Upgraded!
January 26, 2021
Very pleased with the Alpha 200i after the first two weeks of everyday use. Recently upgraded from the Alpha 100 system, which I used for seven years and liked also. The new device is similar to the 100, except everything about it is a little easier to use. Transitioning was not difficult. The instructional videos by Steve were very helpful for me. I wouldn't dream of letting my dogs loose in the wilderness without having this device!

Great Product All the Way Around!!!
January 14, 2021
I'm loving the new Alpha 200i + TT15 GPS Dog Tracking E-Collar Combo. I purchased this with an extra collar for running both of my dogs. Setting up the system and adding the extra collar was a breeze....even for an old guy like me! I love knowing exactly where my dogs are when out in the field or woods; without the need for the annoying loud beeping of some systems. I also love being able to correct either for bad behavior should that be necessary. Seeing the location of both dogs at the same time is easy because of the large screen. Toggling between the two for the training mode is a piece of cake. I was able to name each collar to take the guesswork out of which dog was wearing which collar. The stress of losing sight of my dogs is no longer a part of my hunt or even when just airing them out. I'm so glad I invested in this system given how much more I have invested in my dogs. I'm also very happy that I purchased it from Gun Dog Supply because I know if I ever have a problem, I'll be able to talk with someone who has great product knowledge and wonderful customer service.
I ordered the 200 I around Christmas and even with the holiday I still received it in a timely manner it was shipped the next day very pleased with the service from gun dog supply I have two alpha 100s and wanted to up grade we run hounds for coyote and tracking is very important they are very good instruments and we depend on them on every hunt the alpha 200I is definitely a worthwhile update the bigger screen is awesome for us older folks and the ability to group packs of dogs separately is a great feature so far I love it and would recommend it to anyone handling dogs if you’re looking for a good tracker this is the one and I would recommend that you look to Gun dog supply for your purchase I’m sure you will be very pleased with their service Chuck

The Alpha 200 and the tt15 collar work flawlessly the 200 is an excellent tool, I wish it came with a better mapping solution, or card. Gundogsupply was easy to deal with and did exactly what you expected from a top notch company.

Works as intended but requires study and practice to us in the field.

I'm a big fan of tech and use it a lot. GPS trackers are great and knowing where my dog is and has been makes for a better hunt. This GPS, however, has a steep learning curve. Its no problem sitting at the kitchen table playing around with the features. In the field it is a different story. I often found myself tripping over ground cover while trying to get out the GPS and get back on the right screen to give a command or find the dog. With a gun in one hand, walking through sage or creek bottoms, using a gloved hand I would often get frustrated because the screen would have changed due an inadvertant touch while trying to get the screen in view. I know much of this is my fault because I didn't learn the lock feature (assuming there is one) and was not so familiar with the device that I could reliably operate it without looking. I ended up putting a cow bell on the dog which let me know where she was at all times and then used the GPS collar much more sparingly. That seemed to do the trick. No more tripping while starring at the screen like a millennial. Other than that Garmin always makes great quality products with their own special twist on usability features and high prices. The product works as designed and it is up to you to bring your skill level up to its ability.
ProsAccurate GPS, mapping
ConsSteep learning curve

My Tritronics battery finally died and since I can't get a new one it was the perfect time to upgrade to a gps tracking unit. I can't compare this to the other Garmin units but I am very happy with this and it is great to know exactly where the dog is when he gets out of sight. I have used this on a few hunts already and I am very pleased with the performance. If you want a do it all unit I think you can look no further.
ProsSo far it works well and does what I need it to.

The first unit I received was defective: the compass would not calibrate properly and the pointer sometimes literally spun in circles on the screen when I tried to find my pointing dog. Worse than useless. I spent hours testing and recalibrating the compass, calling Garmin's tech support (basically useless), and finally reached out to Gun Dog Supply for help. GDS is awesome and their staff know more about Garmin products relating to dogs than Garmin. They suggested some things to try that Garmin didn't, and when I got back to them that their suggestions didn't work and that I thought the unit was defective, they sent me a replacement. I'm happy to report that the replacement Alpha 200i works as it should (I've now used it on two chukar hunts in extreme terrain and the compass works as well or better than my trusty old Alpha 100).
ProsIncludes Garmin's inReach
Has more features and tracking doodads than the Alpha 100
Bigger, brighter screen than the Alpha 100
Can track other handhelds easily on the compass
ConsTiny bit heavier than the Alpha 100
First unit was defective but took a lot of time to verify that
Garmin's tech support and software continue to be very subpar

No OnX Hunt chip compatability.
November 9, 2020
Sold the unit to my friend at a discount instead of returning to Gun Dog Supply. Garmin took a big step backwards by not including compatability for the OnX Hunt chip. I upgraded from the Alpha 100 and expected the same OnX experience. I was disappointed. Most Garmin units recognize the chip, not the Alpha 200i. I expected the latest and greatest from Garmin to do the same as their previous units.
ProsGreat screen, excellent interface, very easy to operate the controls.
ConsAs stated above.
