Let’s take a look at the contact points on the new Pro units. The Pro units come with the regular contact points installed, but they also include a longer probe in case you have a dog that’s got a really thick coat and you need that extra length. A lot of times, when folks are looking at them, they don’t really see the difference between the two of them. But it’s a pretty significant difference between the two. You get a wrench. Switching them out is real easy. Just unscrew it a little bit and then finger tighten it. You’ll see the difference here between a regular and a long probe. Pretty significant. You take your long probe, screw it in. Take your wrench and tighten it down. You see the difference there. The long probes are substantially longer. They are great for folks that have dogs with really thick coats. My Shepherd has to use long probes. My Labs, I’m usually better off if I have long probes. Most of my birddogs, my GSP’s, my English Pointers, they are fine with the short probes. It really just depends. If you are not getting good skin contact with the regular probes, then you want to get your long probes out. That way you get through that thick coat. I recommend that you check your probes on a semi-regular basis. Make sure they are tightened good. That’s all there is to it. Long probes on a Pro unit.
