THE ATLAS
The North Carolina Atlas & Gazetteer includes 74 quadrangular maps covering the entire state. The scale of the maps is 1:160,000 (one unit of measure on the map represents 160,000 units of the same measure on the ground). Each map page is composed of 26 minutes of longitude and 31 minutes of latitude, covering an area approximately 24.6 miles (39.6km) wide by 35.5 miles (57.1km) high.

I first got this for search and rescue. Even though I no longer do it, I still keep this book handy. It will save you when the GPS stumbles. And it will usually show you why the digitized information is in error.
