Length: approx. 7 1/2' | Diameter: 5/16" The Wonder Lead is the simplest, fastest way to teach a dog to heel. Using the included illustrated instructions, you can encourage boldness in a shy dog or decrease boldness in a bold dog. Great for pointing breeds, retrievers, show, obedience, or family dogs. Made of durable, flexible plastic. (Charles Jurney calls the Wonder Lead an "EZ Lead" in his book, Finished Dog .) We recommend wearing gloves when using the Wonder Lead. Over time, the rubber stopper will turn the rope black as it rubs against it. This is normal. Using the included "Red Head" with your Wonder Lead: The rubber stopper on the Delmar Smith Wonder Lead will wear out over time. When this happens, the stopper will not allow you to set the distance that the lead will open up. To keep the stopper functional, we have included a plastic bushing called a "Red Head." Installation: Simply place the Read Head onto the lead and slip the stopper over it, where the flange of the Red Head is flush with one side of the stopper (see photos). Remove the small "flag" tab on the Red Head to prevent snagging on the Wonder Lead. Note: You do not necessarily have to wait for the stopper to wear down to utilize the Red Head. Upon receiving the Wonder Lead you can slide the stopper up and down on the lead enough to create space for it to fit over the Red Head. Using the Wonder Lead: 1. Put the Wonder Lead over your dog's head and position the loop in the center of the head. Slide the keeper 1 to 2 inches from the loop. This will keep the Wonder Lead in position. 2. If you need more control with dogs that jump and pull, put the Wonder Lead in front of one ear and behind or under the other ear. A light pull and release is all that is ever needed. 3. When using the Wonder Lead to teach the command "HEEL," if your dog tends to push into your leg place the Wonder Lead in front of the ear closest to your leg (left-handed people dog on right, right-handed on left) and behind the ear away from your leg with tension across the top. Pull and release while giving the command. 4. If your dog wants to jump and pull hard when starting, put the Wonder Lead in front of both ears. Pull and release until the behavior is under control. Then change the Wonder Lead to just one ear. Pay close attention to the tension on your Wonder Lead. 5. A light pull and release is all that is ever needed with the Wonder Lead. NEVER KEEP THE TENSION TIGHT.
