BEST-SELLER.

The 880 is a great pistol for the trainer that only has a new pup every few years.

It is NOT designed to run thousands of blanks through it a year. If you are like me and go through hundreds or thousands of rounds a year, look at one of our higher end blank pistols.

The 880 is perfect for getting your pup conditioned to gunfire. I used one myself for many years (back when I didn't have as many dogs) and it still works great.

The 880 will fire both the crimped acorn blanks and the louder CCI short blanks. This allows you to start out with a quieter blank and then move up to a louder one as your training moves ahead.

Be sure to read my article on Keeping Your Dog from Becoming Gun Shy.

Transcript from Steve's Video:

This is the 880 blank pistol. It's a .22 caliber pistol. It's the only small-frame pistol that we sell. To give you an idea, this is a large-frame pistol, while this is a small-frame pistol. It's just a little bit smaller. It's going to fit all of our small-frame holsters. But in some folks' hands it's a little on the small side.

880 is an intro pistol. It is for somebody that's training one dog. I do not recommend it for heavy excessive use. It's very inexpensive. It's great for getting a dog started on his gunfire. I used one for four or five years and was real happy with it. But it is a situation of you get what you pay for.

Swing-out cylinder. Little stiffer than some of the others. Double action. You can cock it. you can also dry fire. It's an eight shot magazine cylinder. Has ejectors.

The thing you want to watch with this particular pistol is that your swing-out cylinder is spring activated and you want to make sure that this piece does not come undone. If we have trouble with these pistols they unscrew over time. So if you are using one of these, you want to check this. There's a screw head on the end of this. You take a pair of pliers and just tighten it down. If we have a complaint on this pistol it's that folks don't tighten them down and then at some point in the field they open it up and it comes apart. So that's one thing you want to watch on it.

The other thing about this particular pistol is that the cylinder moves but it will lock into place. So you want to make sure that if you advance it that you turn it back so that it's positioned where it's supposed to be.

Occasionally you'll run into a situation where it will get a little out of line and you pull the trigger and it doesn't fire. Typically, if you'll pull the trigger again it's going to get back into line. But that's just something that you have to watch with a spinning cylinder.

It has a one year parts and labor warranty.

The 880 pistol will fire the crimped blanks. It will also fire the CCI medium crimps. It will not fire the Winchester short blanks.

BEST-SELLER.
"I have owned it for over 1 1/2 years and I have never had a misfire or malfunction."

By: Matt Cosgrove From IN

GSP. Hunts. Family pet. I am not a professional trainer, nor do I get out to train nearly as much as I would like to. Therefore I purchased the 880 Blank due to my low volume of use and the low cost. It has been excellent. I have owned it for over 1 1/2 years and I have never had a misfire or malfunction. It is still in great shape even after going through a couple cans of blanks. I definitely recommend it!

By: Nolan Gartin From MO

Lab/Beagle?. Hunts. Family pet. Although I haven't shot it yet, the pistol looks like it will perform well. Solid heavy metal construction, 8 rnd capacity. If the little orange barrel plug falls out, this gun looks VERY real, obviously. Have to cock to the hammer unless you like a 20lb trigger pull, which I think adds as a safety feature. Other than that, there is no safety. Solid piece and great price! Thanks Steve and Rob.

I purchased this blank gun from Steve a few months ago along with an SD-400 training collar. It works great for my dogs training needs (15 to 20 rounds a week). The quality is better than I expected. It fires two types of rounds (loud and louder) and is listed at a great price. You may also want to wear ear protection and purchase a few hundred blanks of both types. They are a bit hard to find at local stores.

Oh, also look at the retrieving dummies… Best price online. Some are less than 4 bucks. I wish I would have spotted them before placing my order.

GWP. Hunts. If this were a more expensive item I'd be downgrading it to a 2 or 3 star review. For what it is it is great.

The cylinder takes some massaging to get it to close right. All of this is done at the truck when it doesn't matter. In use it is fine. The trigger is godawful, but... it's a blank pistol so who cares?

If I were a professional trainer I'd definitely want a higher end model.

It seems like it will last. The thing I don't like is the fact that the cylinder spins freely to the right. The last starter revolver I had, the hammer on it broke after firing a few rounds. This one hasn't broke but just keep in mind the hammer is the part you're going to be putting wear on, and being zinc metal its not very strong.

llewellin. Hunts. Family pet. PROS: When used properly and with a minimal amount of care, it should do the job for a person working a couple dogs. It has gone 'bang' every time I've pulled the trigger, which is about all I ask. And the spent blanks have always popped out easily. So far I haven't had a problem. Cost is also a plus, if you don't need to use it much or for too long.

CONS: the cylinder fits somewhat loosely and takes some attention to ensure it closes properly. It doesn't look like it'll hold up to heavy use for very long (but I could be proven wrong). It's a little small, which isn't much of a problem for me since I have small hands. But guys with big mitts might find it hard to use.

Overall I'm happy with it, given the cost. But if it were in the $50 price range I'd have rated it lower.

Labrador. Hunts. Family pet. Competes. Great gun for the price. I wouldn't buy this if you plan on utilizing it more than a few times per season. I have used it about a dozen times, no problems with it. If you are looking for something that will get the job done for a good price this is it

Yellow Lab. Hunts. This is good for the price and how much I have used it. Not the highest quality but does the job fine. If I were to use it every day training dogs I would probably spend a little more money on a different one.

GSP. Hunts. Family pet. Competes. Fit and finish are as expected for an inexpensive training pistol. The cylinder is chambered extremely short and I cannot find blanks that will fit the gun. I have tried multiple brands and all are too long. The gun will sit unused until the small acorn blanks are available.

Hunts. The pistol is exactly what you said it is in the review on your website. Adequate for training one dog, but it is not the best on the market. Fails to fire at times and hard to swing the cylinder out. I am happy with it, because I am only going to use it a handful of times, and it was at the right price for my usage.

Red Setter. This pistol is OK for what I paid for it. The mechanics are stiff, it is a struggle to swing out the cylinder for loading. Same goes for the extractor. A little time with a file and emery cloth made a difference. But again, you get what you pay for. I am sure if I had opted for one of the more expensive models it would have been a better product. But as advertised, it is a great value for occasional (one dog) use.

Since you were out of the blanks, I had to use slightly different ones than you had on your website. They do not fit as well as they should and I am not able to load more than 4 at a time otherwise it jams up and won't lock into place. I am disappointed in this. I hope I can find blanks that fit better.

The pistol works, but I suggest buying one of the better guns if you plan to use it more than a few times. In other words, if you plan to use it to start races four or five times a year, it would be adequate, but if you want to use it to train your dog, you should consider one of the more expensive blank guns.

Labrador Retriever. Hunts. The gun works, but hard to remove cases after firing. Most of the time the gun will miss fire by the firing pin not hitting case or sometimes even firing two blanks at once. But over all the gun did what I wanted, GUN PROOFED my pup.

Labrador Retriever. Hunts. This product performs as expected considering its quality and price. My expectations of this product were fully realized at the time of purchase. For the moderate level of training that I use it this product has offered very few problems. Most troublesome is the difficulty closing and opening the cylinder when loading or unloading. The blank cartridges do not seat far enough into the cylinder and prevent easy closing of the cylinder within the frame. Further, after the pistol is fired the push rod has never been able to eject the expended cartridges from the cylinder. I believe this is caused by the way the cartridges are seated in the cylinder combined with the expansion experienced after firing. Though, an annoyance these issues do not prevent the product from performing its basic function. I use this product everyday and it works fine for single dog training. For multiple dogs or intensive training I recommend an investment in a higher quality product.

English Pointer. Owns 4 dogs. Hunts. Competes. Does not fire with every pull of the trigger. The double action does not always advance the cylinder to the next round. Also, the cylinder spins on its own when in the holster. When I use this pistol I must cock the hammer and then manually center the cylinder on the cartridge. I rarely use this pistol and would not recommend it to others.

English Setter. Hunts. Competes. I am lucky if one in 3 shots acutally fires. Pull, pull, pull, pull bang. At first I thought it might be bad loads. But the next pack had the same problem. Thought it would be good enough for training my one dog. But, like Steve said, you get what you paid for. I'll be using this as a decoy weight.

Labrador. Hunts. >>> SAM NOTES: We contacted him and ended up issuing a refund for the pistol

Steve, before reading this email I sent you back a review of the collar email. We had recently bought a collar for the dog and I thought we got it from you at the same time as the pistol. As far as the pistol is concerned I am highly disappointed. It worked fairly well until the post that holds the cylinder and swivels in and out so that you can reload the chambers basically fell apart with one of the pieces being lost out in the field when this happened. Thanks Robert.
