STEVE SAYS: Dog waste toilets and septic tanks perform the same function as a buried dog waste disposal system. The main difference is the design. The waste toilet has an open bottom and the septic tank has a closed bottom with overflow tubes. Both units allow the treated waste to be absorbed into the subsoil. The septic tank lid has an attachment that allows you to open it by pressing it with your foot.
Water must be added along with the digester powder to convert the
solid waste to liquid. You can use the unit in winter as long as it
is digesting. The digester powder becomes inactive at 40 degrees F
and lower, so when the ground temperature drops below 40, do not add waste
to the unit. Warm water is required for use in winter.
