Herm Sprenger Quick-Release Extra Large Link Perspective

Add $5.00 for Quick-Release. Extra-Large (3.8 mm) fits up to a 20-21" neck.

Herm Sprenger German made steel. Very strong. Excellent for teaching heel, sit, stay, whoa, etc. Proper fit is achieved by adding or removing links. Just snap them in or out.

The quick-Release version features a scissor snap that allows quick release and easy attachment of the collar.

We prefer the steel "pinch" type dog training collars to choke chains as we have found their use to result in easier and faster training for both the dog and the trainer. We suggest that teaching "heel" is a good place to start with the pinch collar.

First adjust the collar by removing links or adding lengths to get a "good" fit - a fit where the dog will be comfortable when he is in the proper position but will become uncomfortable when he gets out of position. If the dog is wearing a regular collar, place the pinch collar in front of the regular collar and check frequently to be sure the pinch collar is not hanging up on the regular collar. We suggest keeping the pinch collar low on the dog's neck and walking at a slow but steady pace the first few sessions using a large (25' - 30') circular, figure 8, or box pattern. After several sessions, you should be able to progress to a varied pace, and quicker and sharper turns and stops. Placing the pinch collar higher on the dog's neck usually causes more discomfort and a better response in dogs that have not responded after several sessions. Also, a collar with smaller diameter prongs will usually elicit a better response for dogs that have been slow in responding.

We have found the springer pinch collar to be especially useful in teaching "heel", "sit", "whoa", "stay", and "here". Our own view is that choke chains and pinch collars should not be used on pups under six months of age. These collars should only be during training sessions and should NEVER be left on unattended dogs.

Great training collar!
October 27, 2022
Works perfect (First time user of this collar)
Easily adjustable to size for my dogs neck. It has been incredible in training our anxious 1 year old, 105 pounds German Shepard who needed some good direction & corrections.
The links are easy to use when putting on/taking off.
Pros
  • Easy to use
  • Effective in leash training
  • Swivel & stationary ring
Cons
  • None so far.

Effective and humane collar which has for all intents and purposes replaced the choke chain in our obedience training. Reliably releases pressure which is teaching dog how to reduce or eliminate pressure which is kind of the foundation of obedience training. Works wonders with strong willed dogs without breaking their spirit or intimidating the dog with constant verbal repramands. Quick snap of the leash to correct and immediate and reliably releases which reinforces dogs training on how to eliminate pressure. Very effective teaching tool prior to moving to e-collar conditioning. Gotta teach first and this collar is a great tool for teaching desired behaviors.
Pros
  • Humane teaching tool, reliably releases pressure when slack is presented with the leash, unlike choke chains which often hang up and don't immediately release pressure. You are trying to train positive response and this tool helps you do that. Dogs find their comfort level very quickly.
Cons
  • prongs can be offputting for people who haven't used the collar or just don't understand dog behavior and training.

Easy to use and the only thing we’ve tried out of everything that made our dog heel! She walks really well on this when we need to walk her on leash instead of running off leash !
Pros
  • Links easily removed or added for more or less room
  • It works!

Gun Dog. supply. Always a good experience
July 16, 2022
Have been ordering from Gun Dog for 18 months now. Their service and products never disappoint. This is the best place to shop whether you have hunting dog or in our case, just a suburban dog hanging in the neighborhood, or surfing /golfing (per attached pics)…

Had to replace choker collar. Bought previous collar at pet store. For same price this collar is far more substantial.

Highly recommended Gun Dig Supply.
Pros
  • Good quality, substantial.
Cons
  • None

Very well made collar that should have many years of functional life.
Pros
  • Well made and finished. Should be able to use this collar for many years. Functions reliably and well.
  • Would definitely recommend this product to dog owners!
Cons
  • I was surprised at the collar's weight and size ... definitely for larger breeds ( mine is a 75 lb. Lab. ) Due to weight I am having some trouble keeping positioned properly on dog's neck. But do not think this is a big problem.

I tried a gentle leader, a harness, and a martingale collar. This is the only collar that worked. I wish I would have bought this first. Pulling me down the sidewalk is a thing of the past. Great product and fast shipping.

With my large dog, I had no choice but to get the XL collar. I find it a bit difficult to put it on and take it off as often as I need to do so. It is a well made collar, and the larger it is the stronger it is. The smaller Herm Sprenger collars are easier to take apart (to remove or add links as needed).

Gun Dog Supply is the only place to buy products used by a sportsman or dog handler. They are responsive and have great service. They back all their products without a hassle. Great company.

Our dog can be so hyper he is a hazard. The collar, though used only for short minutes at a time, has made him aware of going out of control, and you can see him mentally stop himself and put himself in control. No harm involved. It is doing what we hoped for and is much better than yanking on a collar. He is a sharp dog and quick learner. Was 16 months and mostly untrained when we got him a few weeks ago.
