STEVE SAYS: This is one of my favorite training books that features the versatility of the Labrador breed. Mike trains labs to hunt every bird you can think of and is very honest in his belief that Labs are the most versatile hunting breed. Some folks wouldn't think of this as a book that I might promote because Mike isn't very fond of remote training collars, but I really did enjoy this book and I think you will too! If you want to use your lab in the water and in the field hunting both waterfowl and upland game, this is a great read.

Training the Labrador Retriever as an All-Around Sporting Dog --
As a boy growing up in the mountains of western Colorado, one day Mike Gould walked out of his father's elk hunting camp with a dog and a shotgun instead of an elk rifle. His life was never to be the same.
Since that day...not only has he successfully trained thousands of dogs, he has done it in the most humane and thoughtful way possible. In fact, he has even used his technique that he calls "influence
handling" to successfully manipulate wild coyotes to do his bidding.
Mike eschews such counterproductive training techniques as harsh discipline and electric shock collar
"stimulation." Instead, he chooses to work on principles of trust, love and partnership.
A day spent afield with Mike Gould is a
day of revelation - he is a keen observer of the natural world and the forces that mold it. His thoughts
about dogs, habitat, people and places are sure to delight anyone who enjoys the outdoors.
