"The locking mechanism allows you to load at your truck and carry several into the field for planting without worrying about the launcher popping open."

By: John Willis From CO

Labrador. Hunts. Family pet.
Great product. I tie a loop at the end of the pull rope and trigger it with my foot from four feet away. Great simulation that way. Very reliable product. Fits Chukar well, but Quail can escape. Fold edges to keep them in.

Solid material doesn't allow the scent as well as I would like.

The locking mechanism allows you to load at your truck and cary several into the field for planting without worring about the launcher popping open.

Definitely worth the money.

Great launcher if you don't have the big bucks for the remote style. I have used it about a dozen times and have had no issues at all. I will be purchasing another one and would recommend to anyone training bird dogs. Gun Dog Supply was quick with shipment and delivery, and the best price I could find on the web.

The Scott Bird Manual Launcher is easy to load, and it is a bargain when it comes to training your dog. You may think that a remote unit is best, but the Scott Launcher works just a good. The ease of the unit makes it worth the purchase.

This bird launcher does what it's title says, it launches the bird...very well and high. Just realize your training approach. Do you want to flush the bird yourself by stomping/kicking the ground? Get a foot operated launcher. If you want to simulate different flushing scenarios with your dog, get this launcher as it is more versatile due to the cord which allows you to adjust your proximity to the bird for launching.

This is a very basic but well made and reasonably quiet manual bird launcher. The 'pop' on opening is not so jarring that you train the dog to that sound. You fill with a live bird or a dummy, stretch out the trigger string, and can pop the bird out from about 15'. It is reasonably difficult for a dog to get the bird out, but if determined he can still succeed. I have 2, I am considering a 3rd or 4th to reduce my reloading and hiding work when training in the field. Works great if you want an affordable manual launcher.

Good launcher. Just be careful on setting the trigger. Also I leave mine in the field to avoid handling. Looks like sunlight or weather makes short work of the netting and soon starts to deteriorate.

Upland - Waterfowl. Owns 20 dogs. Hunts. Competes.
The noise complaint at launch time will disappear if you put a bird in the launcher. The added weight will slow the trap down enough to prevent the popping noise you get when you dry fire the launcher. Air flow for more scent can be achieved by heating a large nail over the stove, or outdoor grill, and poking it it through the material at various locations. The hot nail will seal the material and lessen the chance of fraying.
A zip tie on each arm, front and back of the net, cut off flush, will slow the netting from sliding on the launch arms.

An orange surveyor flag attached to one of the arms, which will fold down flat when the launcher is cocked, will allow you to see the trap at a distance, in heavy grass, and may keep you from mowing over it with the brush hog. Been there a few times.

"They get the job done for sure."

By: Mr. K

I spent quite a bit of time with pro bird dog trainers and I saw both the remote and the manual launchers. The manual launcher is all one really needs. The initial cord for the release is an imediate replacement, you will need something longer and stronger. However you won\'t have to worry about replacing expensive parts. They get the job done for sure.

Used them often for the first 3 years (at least 2-3 times a week with pigeons) Worked very well and would recommend them for anyone starting out or as a tune up for pre season bird hunting. Only minor issues with one of them and that was a locking pin to hold one of the spring arms on.

The nylon material that engulfs the game bird is already coming apart at the stiching and its only one season old!! Its also very slippery and seems to bunch up at one end of the launcher and then the bird escapes out the other end if you dont keep adjusting it .Mechanically its fine.

It works but the force of the launch is weak so that the quail only gets ~ 2' in the air. This would work worse if launching a larger bird.
The trigger mechanism is not easily released resulting in the movement of the launcher prior to releasing because of the force of the pull rope.

If I were launching multiple quail or chukars/pheasants, I would give it a lower rating.
