I got a final version of the SD 425 right around the beginning of hunting season in 2012. While I had been looking forward to this collar coming out, it really was not something that I planned to use for myself and I figured after a short few tests I would be done with it. I am still using it several months later and it is now one of my favorite collars. It's in my truck right now and I use it almost every day. I have used it on Roxy for every duck hunt this year and I expect to keep using it around the house for some time.
The 425 is the replacement for the extremely popular SD 400. This version fixes several things that the 400 was missing and brings it in line with the new generation SportDOG collars.
The new features of the 425 include:
Rapid 2 hour charge
Mode selection collar choices for sensitive and regular dogs
Tone and Vibration options
Multi dog modes that include Tone or Vibration on the dial, allowing you to use tone or vibration when in a two or three dog set up
The 425 is a great collar for obedience work, retrievers and flushers. It's going to quickly become one of our best sellers in its category.
While the 400 has been our best selling collar under $200 for the last 8 or 9 years, I never really found a use for it. The 425 has changed that for me. It is an awesome system for folks that don't need a lot of range but want a full featured system for working close to medium range dogs.
Doberman. Owns 2 dogs. Family pet. Set-up of the collar was surprisingly easy. Caution with making sure which strength setting you have the collar on. Medium was probably to high for our younger dog. It is nice to have that many options though. Range on this collar is much better than our last collar. The collar is easy to operate and it is easy to control both dogs from one controller.

Owns 2 dogs. Family pet. These training collars are working well for stopping my young dogs from chasing my cows and donkeys. I am currently working with them to stop their chewing and digging. They certainly respond immediately to the buzzer feature. I have not had to use the stimulation feature yet.

plott and a basset/mix. Owns 2 dogs. Hunts. Family pet. I run both dogs while I call coyotes and bobcats. The vibrate mode is a great feature. I can now silently get the dogs to return to me while I am using my predator call. The properties I hunt are free range for cattle and horses and the dogs used to bark at and chase both. One outing with the collars cured the problem. The collars work excellent.

Owns 3 dogs. Family pet. The first unit I received unfortunately had a problem, and although it charged, it did not work, but the replacement works just fine. Steve was very pleasant and easy to work with.
I have a former military working dog (Belgian Malinois) that we recently adopted. She is very energetic and goal oriented. She does not like getting NO for an answer if she want to do something or go someplace. Since I have been using the collar, she is much better at coming when she is called or stopping undesirable behavior, such as chasing our cats and peacocks. I do not have to use it very much now, but when I do, it is VERY effective. I definitely recommend this product.

Owns 2 dogs. Family pet. I can't comment because I haven't put them on my dogs yet. After watching your training video it was obvious I had jumped the gun in buying the trainers. My dogs still needed some basic training. Well, I am now getting them some training, and we are working on leash walking and other commands. My plan is to switch to the trainers after they have a good understanding of what "heel" means! I also bought the no-bark collars. It's worked well with one of them, but the other has had a rough time. He scratches it so much that he has scratch off almost all of hair on his neck. He will still stop barking after a few times, but I'm not convinced this was the right way to go with him -- although I don't know any other way.

Owns 2 dogs. Family pet. I walk my two dogs by myself, and they greatly out power me. This gives me the control I need when there are distractions for my dogs. I usually have it set on level 1-2, and it gets their attention off the distraction and back on me and the commands that I'm giving. It took awhile for my trainer to convince me, but I'm glad he did, and that he recommend your company.

Owns 2 dogs. Hunts. This setup is great for running both my dogs in the field. Very easy to use and program to add/remove additional collars. Gun Dog Supply is a great company I and will continue to buy from them.

Boxador. Owns 2 dogs. Family pet. Our 2 boxer/lab dogs, 1 male and 1 female are responding well to the use of the collars. The collars are made to withstand the elements and are of a quality that is way above the ones we had previously. The SportDOG is helping to get our 1 yr. old dogs to obey our commands and for that we are very pleased with our purchase.

Owns 2 dogs. Family pet. These collars are definitely a lot different than the older models. The Sportdog collars I had before were great, but seems like the collar and controller stopped talking to each other (but not before I had them put through salt water every weekend for like a year). Not sure what happened, but I decided to stay with Sportdog and get the newer model. The new model feels lighter (almost cheap feeling), and the buttons to turn them on are on the inside where the dogs neck is, whereas the older models had the buttons on the side. That being said, it's nice to be able to control both dogs on a single remote AND still have the tone/vibrate function. The only real difference I've really noticed performance-wise is the fact I have to turn the collar up pretty high to get a reaction (like 5 or higher, collar only goes up to 7) out of my staffie. On the old model I would go up to maybe 4; 5 would cause him to yelp. I've checked the collar tightness and made sure everything was in working order. That being said, the collars seem to be ok for I need.

The SportDOG Field Trainer SD 425 is an incredibly versatile training collar and a good choice for all-around use. The SportDOG FieldTrainer SD 425 is ideal for training in the yard, field, or for hunting with close-working dogs. Both the transmitter and receiver are waterproof and submersible.
The 425 can be expanded to control up to three dogs by adding SportDOG Brand Add-A-Dog collars. The comfortable "soft coat" transmitter finish makes this unit a pleasure to handle.
The low continuous stimulation levels and gradual increases between levels on the SD-425 are particularly useful with sensitive dogs or breeds.
You can customize your SportDOG Field Trainer SD-425 to match your training preference. It comes set up in MODE-1 (a 7-level continuous + 7-level momentary stimulation one dog collar with non-stimulation tone button), but it can easily be changed into 7 different modes with different button configurations.
