One hour of BASIC OBEDIENCE training
from Pro Trainer Robin MacFarlane.
The SportDOG SD-1225 is like a little brother to the popular SD-1825. It uses the exact same collar receiver as the 1825, but with a smaller transmitter and a slightly reduced range (3/4 mile vs. 1 mile).
Like the SD-1825, the SD-1225 receiver collar has 3 programmable stimulation settings, allowing you to choose between low, medium, and high stimulation to more accurately address your dog's stimulation needs.
The SD-1225 transmitter doesn't have the toggle switch found on the 1825, so you have fewer modes to choose from, but it still maintains all the same functions as the 1825: continuous stimulation, momentary stimulation, vibration, and tone.
The only multi-dog mode on the SD-1225 offers continuous stimulation only, one button for each dog.
The 1225 maintains 16 levels of continuous stimulation, but drops down to only 8 levels of momentary stimulation.
The modes to help you personalize your system to fit YOUR dog's needs include:
Continuous, Momentary, Tone (1 Dog Only)
High-Continuous, Low-Continuous, Tone (1 Dog Only)
Dog 1, Dog 2, Dog 3 (all continuous)
Continuous, Momentary, Vibration (1 Dog Only)
High-Continuous, Low-Continuous, Programmable Continuous (A hot button of sorts. You set the intensity.) (1 Dog Only)
High-Continuous, Low-Continuous, Vibration (1 Dog Only)
This is the SD-1225 SportDOG collar. The SD-1225 fits in between some of the units. It is a little longer range than the 825, not quite as far as the 1825.
Unlike the 825, it has the larger size collar. Still not a big collar, but it's going to have a little longer battery life. It's going to fit on a little bigger dog.
The biggest difference between the 1225 and the smaller collars is that it has a wider range of stimulation choices on the collar. This has the low stim mode, the medium stim mode, and the high stim mode. So it's going to cover a really broad range of dogs. If you have a dog that's extremely sensitive you can set it down on low. If you have a dog that's really tough and really hardheaded, needs a higher stimulation level, then this collar will step up.
Size-wise, it's the exact same size as the 825 on the transmitter. So it's a little bit smaller transmitter. Probably my favorite size of the transmitters that they have. It's not extremely small like the 425. It's also not big like the 1825. It kinda falls in between and it feels good in the hand.
It doesn't have some things, though, that the bigger collar has. The 1825 has a toggle switch on it which allows more multi-dog functions. So this collar does not have that. It sort of falls in between.
The 1225 has modes just like any other SportDOG system. So you can go in and set up different training features depending on what you want. We have a chart that shows all the different modes.
This comes in a basic setup where you have tone and you have continuous and momentary. Same thing about dials. SportDOG makes the best dials. Just absolutely love them. They've got a rubber coating on them so they are easy to grip even if your hands are sweaty. If you live in the south like I do and it's humid all the time, their dials are just great.
So it's a neat system. Gives you some of the features of their higher-end collars in a smaller package. It's been a popular system for us. It just covers some things that you need, especially in a one dog system.
We're going to take at some of the other features on their higher-end stuff, but the 1225 is a good collar for folks that are looking for something that's going to have a little more range than the under $200 set, but that has some of the higher-end features but not the high-end price tag.
"Not kidding when I say it has been a life saver."
By: Gretchen Willlingham
Border Collie. Owns 2 dogs. Family pet. I wish there was a rating above excellent. I have what my dog trainer says is the most hard headed dog she has ever had. I ordered the SC 1225 because she would bolt when she was outside. My husband was skeptical because of her personality. Not kidding when I say it has been a life saver. I rarely have to use stimulation on her. The beep sound reminds her to pay attention...she knows what comes next.
My other rescue is very timid as he was badly abused. He only needs the tone. I love this collar because you can start out with the tone or as I did with the vibration. It has both options.
I am pretty sure I am this collars biggest fan!!!

"EXCELLENT customer service!"
By: Pukapassion / Aubrie~Kauai
Aloha, I bought a Sportdog SD-1825 2-dog system for my girls. Not only did Gun Dog Supply assist me in what model to buy, they gave me links to their website with the info I needed. Once I purchased my e-collars, they shipped them fast. I was a little confused on how to tie in the extra collar when they arrived, so I called them up and they walked me through it step by step. EXCELLENT customer service! I would recommend them to anyone and will be purchasing from them again! Mahalo Aubrie~Kauai

"Best training investment I have made"
By: DMS
Have been using this collar hard, daily for the last year. Best training investment I have made. Easy to use, Easy to configure. I like the flexibility of it. Both remote and receiver have been wet, packed with mud, caked with snow, and show very little wear. I would not hesitate to purchase this collar again. Also, the fast recharge time, and long battery time are a big bonus.

"My dog loves it, because he knows he gets to walk off leash with a certain amount of freedom."
By: Joe Porter
Owns 11 dogs. Family pet. I really like this collar. I upgraded from the SD400 which I liked. I walk and hike in the National Forest in the Smoky Mountains, and I wanted the extra rang. I like having both tone and vibration along with the continuous stimulation, which is a setup option. The beeper and/or the vibration work 95% of the time, with stimulation as the backup. My Chocolate Lab actually comes up to me when he hears me turn it on. It took me a long time to decide on getting my first e-collar, but used properly they are great. My dog loves it because he knows he gets to walk off leash with a certain amount of freedom. I love the my SportDog collars, especially the SD1225.

By: Toby Welborn
Owns 2 dogs. Hunts. Family pet. Has survived snow, dirt, dust, water, and even getting run over once. Mainly only use it for recall now, and the only time it did not work is when I forgot to turn the collar on. Usually only have to charge overnight once or twice during week-long trips (and that can be avoided if charged while coming and going immediately before and after use). I would definitely buy SportDOG products again.

"Awesome collar system! Great customer service!"
By: K.H. From MN
Owns 2 dogs. Family pet. Competes. Awesome collar system! Great customer service! This is our third purchase from gundogsupply.com, and we've been impressed each time. We use the collar in our large yard during rally obedience and agility training (just as a backup to keep the dogs in the yard). Waterproof; nice to have multi-dog function when they swim at the lake. This collar also has a large range of intensity levels for the "buzz", as we say. Great for our sensitive young dog, and older, more stubborn dog. I also love the "beep" tone feature, as we mostly just use that. When the dogs hear the "beep", it's like hearing "COME!", and 90% of the time they just come in response to that, and you don't have to shout when they are far away. VERY SATISFIED!

Family pet. Great product, solid quality feel, waterproof, 3/4 mile range is real not just marketing. I expect this to last a long time due to the build quality. Easy to set up, power level dial stays at the selected level. This was a recommendation from Gun Dog Supply, and I couldn't be happier. I can walk the dog in the neighborhood without a leash, and she won't go into a field until I release her.

Hunts. A little complicated for me. I'm not real good at this stuff! Once I found the level needed for my dog, I like it a lot. Almost a waste of money! She got so good I barely use it on her any more! She still wears it! I just don't push the buttons. It works! I like the adjustable Shock. 3 usually works but 4 will get her attention! As a duck and pheasant hunter, I like the range. If only because of the terrain. The remote is nice once you figure it out. Not hard to do. Don't know that I ever used the continuous button, but is nice to know it's there. Gun Dog Supply recommended 3 collars. I liked the help. 2 of them were cheaper.

The SportDOG SD-1225 is ideal for training in the yard, field, or for hunting with mid-range working dogs. Both the transmitter and receiver are waterproof and submersible. The 1225 can be expanded to control up to three dogs by adding SportDOG Brand Add-A-Dog collars. The comfortable "soft coat" transmitter finish makes this unit a pleasure to handle. This is dog training gear the way you would design it.
You can customize your SportDOG SD-1225 to match your training preferences. It comes set up in the standard 8-level continuous + 8-level momentary stimulation one dog collar with a non-stimulation tone button, but it can easily be changed into 7 different modes with different button configurations including vibration. The low continuous stimulation levels and gradual increases between levels on the SD-1225 are particularly useful with sensitive dogs or breeds.
You are also able to transform your one dog system at any time into a two or three dog system using the "Add-A-Dog" feature.
Gun Dog Supply Exclusive: One Hour BASIC OBEDIENCE Ecollar Training DVD
$40 Value -- You get this FOR FREE when you buy this ecollar.
We are proud to announce that Professional Dog Trainer Robin MacFarlane is working with us! We just wrapped another video shoot, and are launching her latest DVD.
What's interesting about these videos is that Robin has never worked with these dogs before, and several younger dogs have never been trained on an ecollar.
First, Robin walks you through the basic obedience commands showing what proper form looks like.
Next, Robin shows how she introduces the ecollar to two of Steve's puppies, Jack & Tilly, and shows you how to find the right STIM level to communicate with your dog.
She then turns that into a lesson for your dog to recognize that STIM means pay attention to your handler and expands that into a basic recall.
Additional segments include teaching RECALL, PLACE, SIT, and HEEL.
The SportDOG Sport Hunter SD 1225 is a 3/4 mile range version of the popular SD 800. It has all of the features of the SD-800 but adds more modes, vibration, longer range, faster charging, and a smaller improved collar.
You can customize your SportDOG SD-1225 to match your training preference. It comes out of the box set up in MODE-1 (an 8-level continuous + 8-level momentary stimulation one dog collar with a separate tone button), but it can easily be changed
into 7 different modes with different button configurations. This allows you to customize your transmitter to your training needs. The wide range of stimulation levels and gradual increases between levels on the SD-1225 are particularly useful with sensitive dogs or breeds.
The SD-1225 features a 3/4 mile range, a slim profile collar receiver that ensures a perfect fit, and a compact transmitter that's easy to handle. You are also able to transform your one dog system into a two or three dog unit with the "Add-A-Dog" feature. And it's waterproof!
