With Tritronics EXP+ you can now add additional collars to expand your 1-dog EXP transmitter into a multi-dog system.
New from Tri-Tronics, the G2 EXP+ (EXPANDABLE) collars are the latest improvement on the Tritronics G2 series of Field and Pro series remote dog training collars.
Buy a 1-dog Tri-Tronics EXP system now and add extra EXP collar/receivers as you need them later on (when you buy another dog).

All PRO EXP systems (Pro 100 EXP, Pro 200 EXP, Pro 500 EXP) can handle 1, 2 or 3 dogs.
The Tri-tronics Field 90 EXP, Flyway Special EXP, and
Upland Special EXP systems can now manage 1, 2 or 3 dogs.
Control additional dogs with a simple 3-position toggle switch on the transmitter. The three clearly marked colors on the toggle correspond to the three differently colored collar straps.
The Classic 70 and Trashbreaker EXP systems now allow you to run 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 dogs from a single EXP transmitter.
What's New with the G2 EXP Collars/Receivers
The G2 EXP receivers are the exact same collar receiver that Tri-Tronics introduced last year. The good news here is that G2 EXP will be backwards compatible with every G2 system that is already out there.
For example, say you purchased a Sport 50 G2 and now you need to upgrade to a system with more range or stimulation options. You can purchase any
of the G2 EXP systems and use your existing Sport 50's G2 collar/receiver with your new G2 EXP transmitter.
Also, customers that have purchased a Classic 70 G2 or Trashbreaker G2 4 or 5 dog system can now purchase additional G2 EXP collar receivers and turn their existing systems into 5 or 6
dog models.
More about the G2 EXP Collar/Receiver
- All G2 EXP receivers will work with any of the G2 EXP systems. Once an additional receiver has been married to the transmitter, you will be able to control that receiver by setting the toggle switch on the transmitter to the appropriate position and then pressing the desired stimulation or tone button.
- Additional G2 EXP receivers will be sold separately and have a retail price of $130. G2 EXP receivers will NOT include collar straps since Tri-Tronics is including three collar straps (black, red and blue) with the purchase of your G2 EXP transmitter 1 dog system. Also, G2 charging cradles and G2 charging cubes sold separately:
What's New with the EXP Transmitter?
Most of the Tritronics G2 EXP transmitters have the same design as the existing G2 transmitters, except for the addition of the 3-position toggle switch and a few inline changes made earlier this summer which have improved the use and feel of the G2 line.
G2 EXP transmitters now have an improved transmitter dial, a higher antenna guard, a better tone button and improved stimulation buttons.
I have been very pleased with the new features of the G2 EXP units, especially the new feel and design of the EXP transmitter dial. One handed operation is so much better, and the dial is much, much easier to use when you are wearing gloves.
The tone or accessory button located on the back of the EXP transmitter has also been improved. It makes the using TONE or the add-on Tri-tronics Accessory Beeper much easier.
Major changes to the "Up to 6-dog" Transmitter Design
The only major transmitter design changes were made to the "up to 6-dog" collars: the Classic 70 G2 EXP and the Trashbreaker G2 EXP. These two EXP transmitters are now designed like
the original G2 6-dog transmitter.
The best thing about these "up to six dog" systems is that you can buy collar/receivers as you need them instead of blowing your entire budget at one time.
- These EXP transmitters have three different STIM buttons. The color of the three STIM buttons corresponds to the color of the dog1/dog2/dog3 collar straps.
- Each STIM button also has a colored plastic ring on the button guard that matches the colors of the dog4/dog5/dog6 collar straps.
- Use the toggle switch to change the STIM buttons from dog1/dog2/dog3 to dog4/dog5/dog6.
G2 EXP Transmitter: Same buttons as before
Button locations, colors and functions (black=momentary, red=continuous) on the G2 EXP are same as to the existing G2 buttons
locations and match the changes that Tri-Tronics made in the mid 1990's to standardize all of their transmitters.
Use the G2 EXP and the Tritronics Accessory Beeper
All G2 EXP transmitters will also be able to use the existing
accessory beeper (just like the G2 line) as an add on at any time.
Turn your intensity dial to "A" and you now have a remote controlled
beeper collar for your bird dog.
Already own a G2? What's in it for you?
Tri-Tronics is known for constantly making changes and improvements in
their collars even after they have introduced a new system, so the EXP
addition does not really come as a surprise to me. Folks should not
feel like they have "missed out" if they already purchased a pre EXP
G2 system.
Many of the "in-line" changes were made several months ago.
For example, the new 3.5" inch antenna has been used all of this year because it has the same range as the original 5.5" flex antenna with a much lower profile. Folks that
want a smaller transmitter can get this new antenna here. The new G2 intensity dial and tone buttons have also been around for a couple of months.
There are several advantages for current 1-dog G2 owners:
- EXP MEANS INSTANT COMPATIBILTY: If you ever lose your G2 collar/receiver or transmitter, you can now purchase a new one without having to send anything into the factory.
- TWO YEAR WARRANTY: You will also get the full two year warranty with your new collar or transmitter since Tri-Tronics has to separate warranties for each component now.
- LESS DOWN TIME, WHETHER HUNTING OR TRAINING: Have a broken collar/receiver that's out-of-warranty? For the same money as sending your unit off for a repair, get a brand spanking new collar/receiver.
- USE OLD G2 COLLARS WITH NEW SYSTEMS: If you have an old 1-dog G2 system now and want to upgrade, buy a 1-dog GXP EXP system and use your existing G2 collar making it a 2-dog system.
For example, folks with G2 Sport Series collars can now buy a Field or Pro system 1-dog system and use their existing G2 Sport collar with the new G2 EXP transmitter.
What's Wrong with the G2 EXP line?
Very little. The only systems that I think we will miss are the
Classic 70 and Trashbreaker 2-dog systems. These are the only systems
that no longer "exist" in the Tri-Tronics line.
Sure, you can still get a two dog system by purchasing a 70 or TB G2 EXP one dog system and one additional collar, but you will have a "extra" button and toggle switch that you really may not ever need. You will of course have the option of adding collars later but many folks will never have more that two dogs.
What's CONFUSING about G2 EXP
The only "confusing" part of the G2 EXP systems is that additional
chargers and cradles will NOT be included when you purchase a multi
dog system.
The advantage here is there will be some up front cost
savings. Since Tri-Tronics is not including these in the G2 EXP
system, you can always use the ones that come with the G2 EXP
transmitter and one dog collar, but you will need to purchase
additional cradles and charging cubes if you want to charge all your
collars at the same time. It's no big deal, since we stock them.
Who needs additional chargers anyway?
Most folks really won't need additional chargers since the Tri-Tronics
collars and transmitters charge so dang fast. You may want to purchase an
additional cradle for your 2-dog system so you can charge both
collars at the same time using the dual lead charger that is included
with your G2 EXP system.
My experience is that you will need to charge collars more often than your transmitter (I have been using a G2 for about a
year and a half and I have never had my transmitter move into the
"needs charging" yellow or red mode) I charge my transmitter out of
habit, but it just does not need to be charged that often.
Tritronics G2 EXP Price Changes
The only "real" price increase with G2 EXP (beyond the extra twenty bucks on the front-end) is in the Classic 70 line. The Classic 70 G2 EXP 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 dog systems are slightly higher than the regular G2 versions.
For example, a 3-Dog G2 Classic 70 was $559. The Classic 70 G2 EXP 1-dog system + 2 additional G2 EXP receivers will be $579 and you will not
have the extra dual lead charger and two extra cradles (normally $50).
This change was necessary to keep the price the same for the G2 EXP
receivers across the board.
What this means is that EVERY OTHER TRITRONICS G2 EXP system will be less expensive. For example, compare an old Pro 100 G2 2-dog for $607 with the equivalent Pro 100 G2 EXP 1-dog system + a G2 EXP collar/receiver at $577.
You'll still be missing the extra charger and collar cradle, but you can purchase these if you want them, and you'll also have the option of adding a third dog at any point in the future.
The best savings is seen in the Trashbreaker line. A G2 Trashbreaker
was $1299. The Trashbreaker G2 EXP 1-dog system + 5 additional
G2 EXP collar/receivers and 3 extra collar straps (3 are included with
your 1-dog system so you will need 3 more for a six dog set up) will
cost $1049. You may still want to get some extra collar cradles and
chargers, but you can purchase these separately and only if you want
them.
Many Classic 70 users may want to look at upgrading to the
two-mile Trashbreaker since it is only $100 more than the G2 EXP
version of the Classic 70 no matter how many dogs you add. An extra
mile of range for only $100 is quite a bargin.
NON-EXP+ G2 1-Dog Systems Still Being Manufactured
I can hear folks already, "Hey, Steve! I only want a one dog system. I have no plans of ever having more than one dog."
Ok. Tritronics is still offering the non-EXP systems. You can save $20 if you only have one dog and don't want the option to upgrade.
Tri-Tronics will continue to make all of the 1-dog FIELD and PRO systems. These units will be priced $20 less than the G2 EXP versions and will NOT be upgradeable. These non-EXP 1-dog systems are current G2 line that we are selling now (before G2 EXP).
These G2 1-dog units also have the in-line transmitter improvements (improved transmitter dial, a higher antenna guard, a better tone button and improved stimulation buttons.)
Why would you want a non-EXP collar? Well, the biggest advantage in buying a non-EXP G2 here will be for folks interested in The Classic 70 G2 and the
Trashbreaker G2 1-dog systems. These VERY popular collars are the simple, straightforward 1-dog, 1-button transmitters that customers have
come to expect from Tri-tronics since the A1-70 was introduced way back in
1968.

TRI-TRONICS G2 EXP FIELD & PRO SERIES PRODUCTS:
The G2 EXP products offer a very simple and cost effective way to expand the capability of our Field and Pro Series products. For only $20 (MAP) more, all of our Field and Pro Series products have the capability of being expanded in the field by the customer to control 3 to 6 dogs by simply buying additional receivers. All of these products have the same stimulation button configuration and colors as our current single dog models. Additional dogs are controlled by a simple toggle switch which is clearly marked with different colors for different positions that correspond to the different collar strap colors on the dogs. Currently our Flyway, Upland, Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500 models only come in one or two dog versions but with the G2 EXP products, customers will also be able to get 3 dog versions of these models. It should also be noted that currently, customers are required to purchase an extra receiver charging cradle and power supply with each additional receiver they purchase whereas under the G2 EXP products, the customers can elect not to purchase the extra receiver charging cradle and power supply. Given that the receiver can be fully charged within two hours, these extra items may not be needed in multi-dog products.
