Great idea, may need some improvement

My 4 yo black lab male hasn't had much experience with diving birds. He would swim in circles and dunk his head even though the bird popped up a few yards away. Hard to see birds when your head is under water! He stubbornly refused to be handled away from where he "knew" the bird was, so I needed a training solution.We have only had one session with this, and I sense some progress by the dog when things went right, so 3 stars might be too low. The issue we had is that on 1/3 of the time the decoy wouldn't go under water, even when I stuck the fish rod tip a foot under the surface. It seems like the decoy landed "upside down" and the bevel wouldn't take the decoy under in those instances. We are using a braided non stretch line.

This product is so much fun! My dogs love chasing after it and having it dive to teach them about wounded birds is so crucial! Product works perfectly and is well made. Definitely recommend to have for summer training and around waterfowl dogs.

I rated it only average because I have only begun to use it. It is not diving as much as I hoped and my lab is able to follow it. I was hoping she would lose sight of it and have to reacquire it. But it is useful in that she is forced to follow a wounded duck.
