Jurney: Finished Dog

I had the opportunity to meet Charlie Jurney in 2004 at a new product demonstration at the SportDOG Collars offices in Knoxville, Tennessee. After having a couple of days to see him work dogs and hear his philosophy on dog training, I felt like "Finished Dog: A Complete Training Manual for the Finished Hunting Retriever" would be a great addition to our catalog.

I think the thing I enjoy the most about his book is the way he credits other trainers when he has adapted their ideas to his training methods. There is an open-minded feeling to his book that shows how you can always learn new ideas and techniques to improve the way you train and interact with your dog.

His book is written in a very enjoyable question and answer format, making it one of those dog training books that is hard to put down. I highly recommend it!

Transcript from Steve's Video:

Today we're looking at Charlie Journey's "Finished Dog" book. Charlie's book is written in an interesting fashion. It's a question and answer book. Instead of it just being read to you or in a standard format, it's a list of questions along with answers.

One of the things I like about Charlie's book is that it is centered on e-collars, but he also teaches you how to train without them. So it covers folks that are looking for both ways to train your dog—with e-collars or without e-collars. It's a really great read. We've enjoyed it a bunch.
