Garmin Alpha and Astro Master Reset Instructions

Having trouble with your Alpha or Astro? A "Master Reset" may fix the problem.

Alpha 300/200 | Alpha 100 | Alpha 10 | Astro 430/320/220 | TT15 MINI/T5 MINI | TT15/TT10/T5/DC-50


Alpha 300 / 200 Series Handheld Master Reset

There are a few instances in which you may want to perform a master reset on the Alpha 300 or 200, including the following:
  • Not receiving a satellite signal
  • Restoring the factory default settings
  • Not functioning properly
Performing a factory reset will erase all saved data on the system. User data (waypoints, routes, tracks, and dog collars in the Dog List) can be backed up to your computer by following the steps in this article.

To perform the master reset:

1. Power off your Alpha


2. Press and hold Scroll Left and Enter simultaneously
3. Power on the Alpha while continuing to hold both buttons
4. Release ONLY the Power button when "Garmin" appears on the screen
5. Release the other two buttons when the message, "This will remove all saved user data.....?" appears
6. Touch erase
7. Leave your Alpha outside with a clear view of the sky for a minimum of 20 minutes to acquire satellite data

Your Alpha is now reset and ready for use.


Alpha 100 Handheld Master Reset

There are a few instances in which you may want to perform a master reset on the Alpha 100, including the following:
  • Restoring the factory default settings
  • Not functioning properly
Performing a master reset can cause data loss. User data (waypoints, routes, tracks, and dog collars in the Dog List) can be backed up to your computer by following the steps in this article.

To perform the master reset:

1. Power off your Alpha


2. Press and hold your finger on the upper left side of the display
3. Power on the Alpha while continuing to press the screen


4. Wait for the message, "Do you really want to erase all user data?
5. Release your finger from the upper left side of the display
6. Touch erase
7. Leave your Alpha outside with a clear view of the sky for a minimum of 20 minutes to acquire satellite data

Your Alpha is now reset and ready for use.


Alpha 10 Handheld Master Reset

There are a few instances in which you may want to perform a master reset on the Alpha 10, including the following:
  • Restoring the factory default settings
  • Not functioning properly
Performing a master reset can cause data loss. User data (waypoints, routes, tracks, and dog collars in the Dog List) can be backed up to your computer by following the steps in this article.

To perform the master reset:

1. Press the menu button
2. Select Setup > System
3. Select an option:
  • To reset all settings to the default values and save all user-entered information, select Restore Defaults
  • To delete all user data and reset all settings to the factory default values, select Factory Reset
Your Alpha is now reset and ready for use.


Astro 430 / 320 / 220 Handheld Master Reset

There are a few instances in which you may want to perform a master reset on your Astro dog tracking handheld, including the following:
  • Not receiving a satellite signal
  • Restoring the factory default settings
  • Not functioning properly
All settings, user data (waypoints, routes, tracks, and dog collars in the Dog List), and satellite data will be erased when resetting the GPS. User data can be backed up to your computer by following the steps in this article.

To perform the master reset:

1. Turn off your Astro



2. Press and hold Map and Enter
3. Power on the Astro
4. Release the power button


5. Wait for the message, "Do you really want to erase all user data?"
6. Release the Map and Enter buttons and select "yes"
7. Leave your Astro outside with a clear view of the sky for a minimum of 20 minutes to acquire satellite data


Your Astro is now reset and ready for use.

Master Reset for T5 MINI and TT15 MINI Dog Tracking Collars

If your T5 MINI or TT15 MINI collar is failing to operate as expected, corrupt data may be the cause. Performing a master reset will reset the collar to factory settings and clear data, resolving issues caused by corrupt data.

To perform a master reset:

1. Ensure the device is powered on and flashing a green light
2. Rapidly press the power Button 8 times
3. Wait for light to turn solid red then begin flashing green again
4. Reference the Owner's Manual to remove old collar information
5. Reference the Owner's Manual to repair the collar

The collar has now been reset and is ready for use. If the collar did not reset you may want to try the sequence again. It may be necessary to leave the device outside with a clear view of the sky for 20 minutes to acquire satellites.


Master reset for TT15, TT10, T5 and DC-50 Dog Tracking Collars

If your TT15, TT10, T5 or DC-50 collar is failing to operate as expected, corrupt data may be the cause. Performing a master reset will reset the collar to factory settings and clear data, resolving issues caused by corrupt data.

NOTE: While it is safe to perform a master reset on a MAC with these collars, it is not safe to update the software on a MAC. Please update the software of the collars using a Windows-based computer.

To perform a master reset:


1. Ensure the device is powered off
2. Connect charging clip to collar
3. Connect USB cable to collar
4. Connect USB cable to power source (computer, AC wall adapter)
5. Ensure collar light is active to confirm connection
6. Firmly press the power button 4 times (each button press should produce a quiet tone from the collar)
7. Wait for light to turn green then red
8. Disconnect USB cable and charging clip from collar
9. Reference the Owner's Manual to remove old collar information
10. Reference the Owner's Manual to repair the collar

The collar has now been reset and is ready for use. If the collar did not reset you may want to try the sequence again and ensure you are hearing the quiet tone after each button press. It may be necessary to leave the device outside with a clear view of the sky for 20 minutes to acquire satellites.
