Simple

Very easy to use and dog tracking works great - much, much simpler solution than the Alpha controllers. Downside- only get to see one dog at a time.

Garmin 550 Plus early review
December 2, 2024
Great Garmin product as expected. Have had it about a month and so far so good. Learning functions and features was painless. Very easy to see where dogs are with arrow location and distance although realizing it switched from feet to yards as dogs come and go caught me by surprise the first couple of times as I thought the unit was inaccurate. The battery life appears to be great as I unintentionally left it on for several days and it had power to spare for my training session. Overall I'm extremely happy so far with no complaints.

Great remote. I purchased an alpha but found it too complicated for my bird hunting. This is simple and can use it without looking at the screen. But if you need to know which direction and distance your dog is its a simple glance at the screen.

Nice Addition to the Alpha 200i
May 5, 2023
I initially purchased the Alpha 200i with (2) TT15X collars. I really like the Alpha but using the training features of the collars was a bit cumbersome. The cool thing is the 550 Plus and the Alpha 200i will pair to the collars simultaneously. I still have the map features of the 200i and I use the collar controls on the 550 Plus.

This transmitter was easy to pair with my existing collars. I now am able to use this with my Alfa 100.

We are so happy with our current Garman 550+ handheld that we purchased an additional handheld so that my husband and I could both run our hunting dogs. Super easy to use, extremely reliable just an all-around good product wouldn't use anything else!

Garmin Pro 550 Plus

The first time I used it I forgot to charge my 200i and it saved the day. Now I'm using it in conjunction with my 200i and could not be happier. I can track her without messing with the screen and yet get tracking data from my 200i at the end of the day.

I'm a beginner using these track and trains but this is very user friendly and tells you everything you need to know at a glance. I'd suggest playing with it a few times before taking your dog out to get used to how it works

A most valuable tool for training
March 19, 2021
Using the Pro 550+ is much more convenient in the training environment than the Alpha 100 remote. I can change dogs and modes without having to look at a screen and go between pages on the display. It provides me with another very valuable tool in my dog training box.

Garmin 550 Pro Plus;
October 13, 2020
The Garmin 550 Pro Plus is a much more useful tracker/trainer transmitter that the ALPHA transmitter. The ALPHA is cumbersome, way too complex, prone to changing settings while being carried in the field, and difficult to use to send a simple TONE or VIBRATION signal to a dog. Numerous times I be occupied with the ALPHA trying to use the correct button or retrieve the tracking screen while my dogs were out of sight, sometimes busting birds. The Pro Plus 550 simplifies the process of sending a signal or quickly checking the location of a dog's TT15 collar, relative to my position. It's far more practical than the ALPHA. "HOWEVER": the ALPHA's tracking features are still invaluable; I carry the ALPHA along with the Pro Plus 550, because it provides important tracking/location info that the Pro Plus unit cannot provide; And, it provides important map information such as landscape, trails, roads, distances, etc. that are vital to preventing loss of my dogs in the vast, thick forests of North Wisconsin. The two units offer complimentary utility. The Pro Plus has made it easier to pay attention to the hunt while maintain control of my dogs.

Perfect

Love the Pro 550 Plus. Paired with two TT15 collars. Everything I need to hunt my English Setters. I have been using Alpha 100 for three years. OK with one dog when you can lock the screen. Real struggle with two dogs. Every time you bounce it you get lost in the ozone. Screens I couldn't find on a bet. The Pro 550 is like my old Sport Dog, but with range and direction. I can wear it on a lanyard and ignore it till I need it. Easy to read. Easy to use. Thirty minutes in everything was second nature.
