Mendota Skid Plate Chest Protector

After suffering a small puncture on his chest but still cleared to hunt if we had protection for the wound. Fortunately my hunting buddy had his dogs mendota skid plate (size med). Talon (30# French Brittany ) ran it for the next day and a half. I immediately ordered one, size (s), and it arrived within a few days. He wears just about every time we're out, either on a training run or especially chasing upland bird. I have even noticed that it has reduced the number of birds on his under carriage. I would highly recommend this product.

This chest protector is of good quality and well engineered. My lab is under 80# but required an XL size because of his deep muscular chest.It fits great, would not run this aggressive hunting dog in the sage brush without it.

Protect my dog perfectly through the frozen cattails and big blue stem stubble fields - recommend highly. Extremely well built and durable

Got the medium sized one for my GSP. Fits great and looks like it will protect her against briers and thorns.

Overall fit was good in size small for my 35lb Boykin Spaniel.

Well trained Brittany. Last year wore through fabric on Cabelas vest after 10 days of hard hunting in Grouse woods of MN. I was excited to try the Mendota Skid Plate, as it seems to be well reviewed. After putting it on, for some live bird training, she bit the plastic pieces circled in attached photo and pulled the straps off the vest. So, it went in the garbage. Normally, she is not a chewer. I like the design, but I would not recommend it, especially for a dog that chews. Gun Dog Supply is a ����������Company, simply the best, but this product did not work for my dog. I will say, Steve's picks are my go to source for recommendations. Thank you GDS for all you do. I will order something different.

Got it set up, easily - now easy on & off. Have only tried it in training for my lab to get used to it. She took to it very quickly and seems to appreciate it. Looking forward to it helping her stay in the field longer this fall!!

Skid plate itself is nice material and well made. However, it just doesn't seem to fit my GSP (52#) very well in the chest (very narrow, but deep). The first time out (test run) it seemed to work well, but she only did a couple miles. The next time out when we were actually hunting she did more mileage and the vest rubbed her front shoulders raw. I'll also take some blame for not paying closer attention to her shoulders and noticing the rubbing before it got as bad. Once the tender areas heal up completely, I'm going to try to see if I can adjust the fit. As noted, it is a very nice vest and would like to use if I can get to fit without chaffing.

The vest was great for Boots and fit perfect. Boots is still young and I wanted something to protect her. Gun Dog Supply ships quickly and has great customer support!

Headline says it all. Gun dog was an awesome shop to buy from. The product not so much. My dogs chest got rubbed raw from the material. I think a softer material sown on inside would help from this. I tried tightening but still rubbed him good. His a working forestry lab mix but a hunting dog may run in to similar issues.

I don't quite know how these haven't dominated this particular niche market. They fit a wide variety of dog shapes, are easy to custom fit for each dog, keep their brightness if you regularly throw them in with your laundry, are VERY reasonably priced, and seem impossible to destroy no matter how hard my dogs try.Our GSP wears one from 4 years ago, and we just got another for our ECS. (See photo.) We'll be buying these as long as they make them.

Great vest fits my 80lb Lab perfectly.

Works great , very adjustable which is awesome for a GSP with their deep chest. Also no rubbing around his 'pits' even after a 4 hour day.

This dog vest/skid plate worked great for my 75lb Labrador. It's very adjustable and provided great protection for him and his underside.

I bought this for my Vizsla who loves running in the woods. This Skid plate protects her belly and chest all while making her visible. Highly recommended this product.

This worked better than the other style, it does not rub on the front legs.

I got this for my lab to wear when we're out in the brush after upland game. He's medium size but very athletic build and a size large fits his chest perfectly. It's a bit loose around his belly, even with the straps cinched in. The good news is he doesn't mind wearing it for several hours and it's cut so that it doesn't rub around his armpits like his last vest. We've only had it out 3 times, but it appears to be holding up well against the brambles and brush. So far I have no complaints.

This skid plate is as advertised and was recommended to me for my Brittany hunting. They have great customer service.

Second skid plate - first he outgrown. Easy to apply, made of durable but flexible nylon and easy to clean. Covers the vital areas in the event the dog crashes a fence or runs through heavy briars. Most importantly, its lightweight so he doesn't overheat.

This vest is well-made and adjusts to nicely fit my lab. She has worn it for a couple of training runs and it seems tough and comfortable.

I purchased this chest protector for two reasons: chest protection from briars and sticks, and the other reason was for a little more visibility. Yes, it saved the chest but at the cost of raw and now hairless front legs. We only used it once for fours hours.

New dog and needed a chest protector. I've previously used Filson, but those are not available. These are and work great. Durable with decent protection and most importantly, no rubbing or irritation under the front legs. Medium was a good fit for my 45 pound setter.

Fits well. Appears to be well made. Haven't had a chance to use it yet.

This is our second skid plate we have purchased because our GSP outgrew the first one, so we bought the next size up. Love the adjustable straps and it covers the upper and lower chest well, which is sometimes hard to find in products with how deep GSPs chests are. The blaze orange is great for high visibility in brush while hunting. It seems to be comfortable on our dog and not rub her wrong in any places. Highly recommend!

Vest is very durable and goes on easily! Protects my dogs chest and belly. Helps to keep my dog safe from being accidentally shot. Highly recommend!

This is my second purchase of the skid plate. It provides protection for my females, keeping them from rubbing their teats raw. Good warm weather vest as it has more ventilation.
