COLLAR SIZING MADE EASY
These are NECK SIZE COLLARS which means the dog's measured neck size IS the collar size.
Measure Your Dog's Neck to ensure a proper fit.
Use a measuring tape, cloth tape, or a piece of string (and measure the string).
Measure your dog's neck where you want the collar to rest on the neck AND at the appropriate tightness.
Once you have a measurement, refer to the Guide below to find the appropriate size.
The neck size (NS) represents the measurement from the center of the buckle to the fourth adjustment hole.
You can adjust approximately 1-inch longer or 2.5-inches shorter. Keep in mind that using the shorter adjustment holes will leave more collar strap extending past the buckle.
Some dog trainers prefer leather collars when training their dogs because it won't pull on a dog's neck like nylon or other synthetic material when you're working with a dog. Leather has a different kind of friction. Leather doesn't spin on a dog the same as nylon. Doesn't tangle. Moves better on the dog's neck when cornering. The collar turns easier.
Many dog owners like the look and feel of leather dog collars. Leather is one of the world's strongest materials and lasts a long time when taken care of properly. Leather is very durable.
On the downside, you have to care for leather collars a little more, especially if you're working your dogs in water and the leather gets wet. You can clean a leather dog collar with a leather cleaner such as SADDLE SOAP. You also don't want a collar to dry out, so keep it clean and oiled with neatsfoot oil or another leather conditioner. If you have a dog with a light-colored coat like a yellow labrador retriever, don't put something on the collar that will stain the dog's neck!

Multiple rings are great for training your dog because you have plenty of options to attach leads, leashes, checkcords, and other training tools. For example, if you have your dog on a stake-out chain hooked to the black D-ring, you can hook your leash to center ring w/o unhooking from the stake until you have control over your dog.
Center-ring collars are safety collars, and if worn loose enough, a dog can roll out of a center-ring collar if it gets caught on a fence or hung up.

The leather is thick and strong, the hardware feels high quality, and to top it off the shipping was speedy. My neighbor has a gun dog supply collar that has lasted them 4 years of hard work on a high energy dog which made me want to purchase mine. When I received it I could immediately see how it would last that long and longer. This is probably the last collar I'll ever have to buy.
High quality materials.
Some may find the leather a little stiff, but that's just because it is thick and built to last. I'll treat mine with some neatsfoot oil or other leather conditioner to keep it supple, but I'm personally pleased that it is so thick.

My vet suggested a good leather collar while at our appointment. I searched all the local stores he suggested but could not find a good one. I found this one inch black leather collar with a metal name tag on gundogsupply.com and my vet said it was a nice collar. The service was good and fast. We love these collars, and have bought 5 different styles over the years from Gun Dog Supply for our dogs. We wanted another black collar and I was disappointed to see there wasn’t a brass fitting option and that this collar is solid black. It is a very pretty collar and excellent quality that we are used to from Gun Dog Supply.
We did notice that when compared to the original collar, the hardware is smaller than the brass fittings.
We really like that the brass name plate is included in the purchase.
We also have the matching 6 foot leather leads and they are great quality too.
