You've got a pretty wide range of features in an intro collar for a very reasonable price.
The Delta Sport is a three-quarter mile range system.
Up to 36 levels of stimulation, both continuous and momentary.
Tone, vibration, AND a no-bark mode.
A good size that fits in the hand really well.
Expandable up to three dogs with an LCD screen. You move from dog to dog to dog.
Steve training ROXY with a Garmin Delta XC.
The issues that we saw with the original Delta were mainly based around the stimulation setup, the bark collar and the lack of long probes.
Garmin fixed the stimulation issue by going back to the same type of stimulation range that Tri-Tronics normally uses. This is one of our most popular setups and it fits the a wide group of dogs.
They also added both direct set levels on the bark collar and the option of using the bark collar at the same time that you are using the training features.
The Delta Sport collar now comes with both long and short contact points.
One of my favorite features is that you can have different stimulation levels for each dog. So if you have a dog that requires low level stimulation, you can set that. When you move to your second dog you can have a higher level.
The Delta Sport is a good, small collar.
It's going to fit on dogs about 8 pounds and up.
Everything is rechargeable.
Everything is waterproof.
It comes with a one year warranty.
What's New in the Delta Sport XC
Rapidly increase or decrease the stimulation level:
Rapidly increase or decrease the stimulation level using the new side button feature. Just press and hold to increase multiple levels.
Set the number of dogs on your system:
The Delta XC Series gives you the option of having a one dog unit, a two dog unit or a three dog unit. If you are not running multiple dogs, you can remove this option and only have the dogs on the handheld that you actually have. You can always add the second and third dog options back to the handheld if you add additional dogs down the road.
Long and short contact points:
The original Delta collars came with short probes installed that were not removable or replaceable with long probes. The Delta Sport XC comes with regular (short) probes installed but long probes are also included and can easily be swapped. These are the same probes used on the Garmin PRO units.
New stimulation pattern:
The original Delta units had a stimulation pattern that didn't match anything that Tri-Tronics had used before. It was much lower on the top end and we ran across a number of dogs that it didn't work with in high drive situations. To fix this issue, Garmin has made the Delta XC stimulation pattern match the one in the Garmin PRO systems. Don't take this to mean that this is a substantially "hotter" collar and it might be too strong for your dog. The low end is still very low, and the middle numbers are also the same. The top end is now what we expect out of a Tri-Tronics system and I don't expect to see any issues with dogs blowing off the stimulation.
Modified side collar loops for a better fit:
The Delta XC Series has slightly modified collar strap loops that allow the receiver to fit better on dogs with larger necks. These modified loops allow the collar to open wider and place the contact points in a better position on the neck compared to the original Delta collar.
New Bark Limiter options:
The Delta Sport XC bark collar has the same auto rise option as the original Delta Sport, but it also has both a vibration only and a 1-18 direct level setting option. This way if you know what level it takes to get your dog to stop his nuisance barking, you can select it from the transmitter. This also gives you the option of having bark collars on up to three dogs with three different levels at the same time.
Bark correction and training at the same time:
The Delta Sport XC lets you use the bark collar and still have the training collar available at the same time. To use this feature, you select the bark collar / training collar mode, select your bark collar level and then return to training. The bark collar level can be Auto-Rise, Vibration Only or Direct Level. Once you have selected your level and returned to training mode, you can raise and lower the training stimulation level without changing the bark limiter level.
Hunts. Family pet. Easy to understand and operate. Training video that was included was helpful. System is still new so no comment on long term battery life.

Family pet. We have 2 Australian Shepherds, a Border Collie, and 2 Labs. Both of my labs were trained for hunting using e-collars. When we picked up our Aussies, we knew we wanted to start e-collar training as soon as possible because of the success that we had with our labs. We looked everywhere for an e-collar/bark collar combination that was a quality product with the range we needed to train them for working. After almost a year of searching we thought it just didn't exist. A friend sent me a link to Gun Dog Supply and I found exactly what I had always been looking for in a few minutes. The training video that came with the collar is incredible also. The collar remote is very comfortable, I don't even have to look down to control it making it easy to deliver fast and effective corrections. The bark collar aspect is great and effective also. Since we have the 3 dogs still on training collars, being able to expand to a 3 dog system is handy. We will be ordering the expansions in the near future. We've only had this product for a week now, but I am happier with this collar than any of the collars we have trialed over the last 7 years. I don't think I will ever buy any other brand in the future.

Family pet. Pleased as possible. The unit has a solid feel and can take the abuse of carrying it in and out of doors. I felt I needed the bark feature, but am finding that a modest vibration is working. However, I may switch the collar to the Jack Russell for indoor bark inhibiting - she's boisterous at the front door. The rest of the issues with dog obedience training is mostly trainer training. I spent a good bit of time and money on how to use the e-collar for the most benefit and least confusion to the dog. I feel I definitely picked a rock-solid tool to work with.

Family pet. I bought this with the intent of taking our untrained dog with us to the woods of northern Minnesota. Before the collar, she was a runner. I could not have her off leash or allow her any freedom. When I got the collar, I spent 45 minutes a day for four straight weeks with her. She is a changed dog! Not only does she walk off leash and stay close by, she is much better behaved all around. The results far exceed what I had hoped to accomplish.

Golden Doodle. Family pet. Has good battery life on both the transmitter and collar. Syncing is very difficult, however. The directions given do NOT work consistently. It seems that there is a lot of trial and error involved, and what works one day does not work the next. One day it will sync with the bark limiter enabled, and the next day I will have to turn this off to get it to sync. Once it does sync, it stays locked on and has good range. UPDATE: After checking with Garmin, I was given additional instructions about how to do this properly. It is surprisingly easy, but is NOT well documented in the instructions provided with the unit. Here are the steps to do it correctly: 1. Make sure you turn the collar OFF before charging it. Press the button for about 2 seconds. It beeps and turns off. 2. Charge the collar using the provided charging adapter. 3. When charging is complete, turn the bark limiter function OFF on the handheld remote (if you had it turned on). 4. Press the button on the collar briefly. You will hear two beeps and the handheld remote should now be communicating with the collar. 5. Now reactivate the bark limiter on the handheld remote (if desired). You might need to press the bottom left button again to re-select the training mode once the bark limiter is on. That's it - pretty simple; just unclear instructions! Now I give this unit five stars.

Family pet. Before I write this review, I must take some time to speak about Gun Dog Supply. I have a great deal of experience in ordering online, and Gun Dog Supply is one of the most responsive vendors I have ever dealt with. The original unit I received seemed to me to have a shorter than desired battery life on the collar. I wrote Steve explaining the situation and asking about getting a replacement battery. Without hesitation he offered a full refund or a replacement unit (not just a collar). I could not believe how fast the new unit arrived and when I charged it up, sure enough the charge on the collar lasts quite long. Overall I am quite pleased with this unit. It offers vibration for barking which is unique among the units I researched. And this is one of the primary reasons for ordering it. It is an effective tool for discouraging unwanted behaviors, and I hope to be able to learn to use it effectively as an aide to training. I know there are several units available that perform comparable to the Garmin. That being said, the vibration feature along with the multiple button configuration help to distinguish this as highly versatile and customizable.

Family pet. We really like the Delta Sport XC. The new simulation profile seems to be perfect for our 11 month old Brittany. When he is calm, level 1 is enough (but not too much). When he is excited, we've had to go as high as 10. I like the fact that there are no rubber plugs on the collar charging port, so it should be really water resistant. We bought the Sport XC for the 3/4 mile range, and the HI/LOW stimulation levels. We don't use the bark collar, so I can't comment on it. Hunts. I wasn't going to leave a review til I got a second package from Gun Dog Supply. In it was a split charger with a letter stating that they had misrepresented the delta sport XC as coming with a split charger when Harmon had actually quit adding that to the package. Instead of just saying 'sorry that'll be an additional $10', they just went ahead and sent me one for free without me ever having to call or anything. Pretty nice to see that there's a company still out there that will take some responsibility. That's a rare thing these days. Other than the excellent customer service which I was most impressed by, the collar works great. Nice small remote, easy to adjust levels quickly on the go. It's everything I would expect from a Garmin/Tri-Tronics system. I have zero complaints. 5 stars to the collar, and 6 stars to Gun Dog Supply!

Hunts. Family pet. I bought the original Delta Sport 2.5 years ago and it has been very reliable and easy to use. The only problem was my GSP sometimes powered thru the highest settings. Now after getting a second dog, a pretty mellow GWP, and not wanting to learn a new controller I recently bought the Delta Sport XC. As promised the XC delivers a much hotter correction when needed, even in the mid-range settings. There are other enhancements too that make the XC a better value, but my only issue with the original collar was the stimulation delivered. I have never used the BARK feature on either collar. So far, very happy with the XC.

Family pet. The e collar itself is well made and range appears to be good. The collar itself has a lower battery life than I would like needs to be charged every other day minimum. Also disappointed in the bark control capabilities. I purchased this unit as it was the only one with both e collar and bark control. The SportDOG Bark Control Deluxe SBC-18 I own is much better at bark control, and I often have to switch back to it when leaving the dog alone. The waterproof capabilities will be tested this spring/summer, so can't rate that. As a training collar by itself it's excellent. Only drops to a 4 star rating for battery life and bark control.

Hunts. Only gave it four stars, as I've yet to have it out for a true test. Seems to work for the little time spent with it in the yard. Do like the added bark feature.

Family pet. I know I will grow to love it, but am still getting used to it. I found the directions from Garmin kind of confusing in setting it up and using it for the first time, but I am using it, and I like its combination of bark, warnings, and correction. Thanks for your information which helped me to choose it.

Walker hounds. Hunts. Took me a bit to get used to all the different configurations, but it's a good unit. Was disappointed right away when I opened the box there was no adapter to charge the collar and handheld unit at the same time. But before I even got a chance to call and ask, one had been shipped to me.

Family pet. I did not need bark control. The collar works well. Midnight learned what I wanted in 4-5 days. Midnight is a very intelligent Lab. I kept in mind that it was a learning tool to teach my dog Midnight.

Walker Hound Lab MIx. Hunts. Family pet. Easy to use, very nice to have 18 levels of stimulation - only have used up to level 5 for my first few weeks of collar training. My dog may need the higher levels down the road when she is allowed more independence. I'm saving the beep and vibration to use for commands. Haven't used the auto bark corrector much yet, I want to manually correct for a while during our early collar training.

Family pet. After trying several training collars, I finally found a product I would recommend to others. Not only does the collar remote charge in 2 hours, but the battery seems to last forever. With the vibration to reduce annoying barking and a tone to give a reminder, this collar is above and beyond any other. I'd highly recommend the Garmin Delta SPORT XC Remote Training BARK Collar.

goldendoodle. Family pet. Being new to owning a training collar I am very disappointed in the instructions - do you need the remote on and present for the barking feature to work? I called and she didn't know - the manual expects you to know how it operates and I don't. I'm learning but it could be made a lot easier with tips and tricks!

Family pet. It's a little complicated at first to get the right settings, but once I had them where they seem to be effective this works great. I've only had this a short time and already I barely have to use the buttons. I put the collar on and whenever my dog needs correction I really just have to let him see the remote, and that generally works.

Family pet. Well built product from Garmin. Still getting used to the button arrangement on the remote; wished the intensity control buttons were closer to the activation button and on same face of remote. That would make rapid adjustments to the setting easier. But all said, I am happy with the product. And very happy with the service and support of Gun Dog Supply!!!

Hunts. Audible tone is different than Gen1 Delta series. It's the same as the power on tone and just single beep. Would prefer tone to be different, so dog does not associate/confuse the tone with power-on and start of a fun/training session, and it be a repeating tone like we use for a whistle recall command. When in training and bark mode the collar occasionally blinks red which would indicate an error condition as the documentation says nothing about this. I called Garmin support, and this is supposedly normal when in this mode but just not documented. Why red ??? why not a different green blink sequence ??? When in higher stimulation modes the collar will make a audible sound when correction is active, the noise is loud enough for dog t hear. Garmin support says this is normal and caused by the electronic transformer. This audible sound is present in the Gen1 Delta series as well, but I never noticed due to stimulation level at higher setting not as high as this new version. Would prefer the stimulation to be silent so dog does not get confused with tone and the other uses for tone. I now wonder is it the tone or the stimulation that the dog is responding to??? With proper fit of the collar being so important for consistent and reliable corrections why not provide short, med and long probes for a more custom fit. My dog could use medium long probes. I like the Delta series for the options and small and convenient size just seems there are a few more technical tweaks needed, Thx.

Family pet. So far I've only used it in the bark collar mode. It seemed to work good at that. As my dog is 4 months old at the time I really haven't used it as a training device as yet. I'm not sure at what age I should start it as a training device.

The battery doesn't last as long as my old TriTronic collar, and I don't think the bark works the range seems good, and I have liked the handheld functions. I am still testing the bark because he doesn't bark only rarely. But for the most part I am satisfied.

Family pet. My dog reacted to the tone and vibration. But no response from the momentary shock. My unit is supposed to go from 1-18 for a stimulus level. After no reaction with the low levels, both my daughter and I put the probes on our bare arms. There was no stimulation until I think it was level 12, which was extremely mild. Level 16 was noticeable, and we did not try any higher.

Hunts. Family pet. Everything seems to be working well except the bark limiter part of it seems to not work at all. I asked a Garmin rep who told me to put in the longer contacts, but it hasn't changed how it works, which is nonexistent. I would rate it higher but that part doesn't work, and that was the selling point on why I bought it!!

Family pet. I'm a bit underwhelmed by this product. I purchased it after my sport dog finally died. I liked the bark collar/e-collar combination because I train dogs that will incessantly bark. I mainly use this for off leash work with my own dog but it seems like half of the time she doesn't feel the vibration and then I up it and suddenly she has been over-corrected. With the sport dog, the highest level she needed was a 4. She is very sensitive and responds well to beeps or minimal vibration unless something really stirs her prey drive. This is why it surprises me that she would ignore a correction and it makes me wonder if, for some reason the contacts aren't working as well, or the collar is sliding around (not an issue for 6 years with the Sport Dog). I switched to the long hair prongs and have not seen any improvement.
I also do not care for the remote as far as ergonomics. It is easy to accidentally switch collars and not realize it if you are used to using the remote by feel. This might be fine for those who are mostly stationary with a remote and working multiple dogs, but it is a pain in the butt when you're crawling through the woods.
I may not purchase a Garmin product again, but I will certainly continue to use Gun Dog Supply.

Family pet. Inconsistent stimulation unless collar is too tight. Buttons are not the easiest configuration, and the vibrate mode is extremely weak. Probably will return. Disappointed as I have an old Tritronics that was great in its day... Like the brick phone, but very reliable. This is lightweight and more features, but I'm not happy with its usability and performance. My friend ordered one and he's happy. I guess it's personal preference.

We are proud to announce that Professional Dog Trainer Robin MacFarlane is working with us! We just wrapped another video shoot, and are launching her latest DVD.
What's interesting about these videos is that Robin has never worked with these dogs before, and several younger dogs have never been trained on an ecollar.
First, Robin walks you through the basic obedience commands showing what proper form looks like.
Next, Robin shows how she introduces the ecollar to two of Steve's puppies, Jack & Tilly, and shows you how to find the right STIM level to communicate with your dog.
She then turns that into a lesson for your dog to recognize that STIM means pay attention to your handler and expands that into a basic recall.
Additional segments include teaching RECALL, PLACE, SIT, and HEEL.
Also features a fully adjustible built-in BarkLimiter with Advanced Bark Correction for more effective training in the field and a quieter kennel at home.
