One hour of BASIC OBEDIENCE training
from Pro Trainer Robin MacFarlane.
We are really happy to have a new version of the BEST SELLING Tri-Tronics Sport series training collar back on the market.
The Sport series has been one of our best selling products since the late 1990's when the original Sportsman collars came out. Over time, the newer versions were incredibly popular, including the Sport 50, Sport 60, Sport 80, Sport Basic and Sport Combo.
Garmin based the design of the Sport PRO on the most popular version of the Tri-Tronics Sport collars -- the Sport Basic.
The Sport Basic was incredibly popular with many dog trainers because of it's ease of use and durable design. The choice of stimulation levels made it one of the best collars on the market, especially for folks looking for a high quality, no look, durable system with all of the reliability of the Tri-Tronics name.
Garmin's Sport PRO continues this history of simple innovation and design.
The Sport PRO is perfect for a wide range of dog folks looking for a tough, dependable unit that is designed for no-look, one-handed operation.
The Sport PRO is designed for folks looking for a unit that does not use an LCD Screen but has buttons, dials and toggle switches.
The Sport PRO features a small transmitter that is easy to hold and comfortable to use.
The Sport PRO has 10 levels of both momentary and continuous stimulation with tone and vibration options.
The Sport PRO has built-in Running Lights so your dog can easily be seen at night.
The Sport PRO also includes the latest version of Garmin's built-in "PRO Bark Limiter" bark collar to control nuisance barking.
The Sport PRO is a good choice for working with any breed of dog.
Ten intensity levels can be quickly adjusted with the dial on the side of the transmitter. Teach yardwork/obedience and enforce known commands with lower levels of stimulation. Use higher levels to stop unwanted chasing or to overcome strong distractions.
The Sport PRO is one of the only systems that has Tone and Vibration features that you can use without having to change the dial.
This allows you the option of teaching multiple non-stimulation commands that you can access quickly from the transmitter.
The Sport PRO uses the top of the line PRO collar.
This is the same collar that is used on the Garmin PRO 70 and PRO 550.
The Sport PRO has the built-in Bark Limiter just like the other Garmin PRO units.
Unlike the PRO units, the Sport has both an Autorise feature and a Direct Set option. I really prefer the Direct Set feature for tough barkers that need higher levels.
The Sport PRO is expandable.
Purchase a one dog system and add up to two additional dogs at any point in the future if your needs change. The Sport PRO uses a color coded 3 position toggle switch that allows you to move from dog to dog without having to look at the transmitter. The color positions on the handheld match the collar strap colors so you always know which dog is which.
Just like other PRO units, the Sport PRO has Running Lights or Beacon Lights on the collar.
These lights can be turned off and on remotely and are great for seeing your dog in the dark.
Another cool addition to the Sport PRO is the Garmin built-in Spine Mount.
This allows you the option of using several of Garmin's accessories with your Sport PRO handheld.
A few of our guys on staff have been testing the Sport PRO the last few weeks. Several are planning on switching to it as their main collar.
This is a GREAT collar and all of the new Garmin improvements make it even better.
I expect the Sport PRO to quickly become one of our best selling systems.
The 3/4 mile range Garmin / Tri-Tronics Sport PRO is lightweight, easy to use, and loaded with features. Train up to three dogs with no-look, one handed operation. Select from 10 different stimulation levels on the transmitter with positive clicks between levels. Remotely control the built-in Bark Limiter to keep things quiet, or activate the Beacon Lights for extra visibility in low light situations. Plus, the transmitter floats!

Tactile dial with clicks between levels allows you to raise and lower the stimulation level by feel without ever having to take your eyes off your dog
Teach yardwork/obedience and enforce known commands with lower levels of stimulation
Use higher levels to stop unwanted chasing or to overcome strong distractions
Insulated contact points ensure consistent and reliable stimulation in the water
Includes interchangeable contact points for long or short-coated dogs
Garmin SPORT PRO Range
3/4 mile range, which is ample for most dog training or for hunting with close-working field dogs. Maximum range is based on "line of sight." This means that to get the full range out of a system there should be nothing between the transmitter and the receiver, and the terrain should be flat and open. This isn't going to happen in most places that we spend time with our dogs. The range on all of the systems that we carry will vary depending on training conditions, including weather, terrain, and the presence of cover.
Remember, too much range will never hurt, but too little could be a problem.

replaced my 15 year old tritronics

Great product for training my wirehaired pointing griffon. He is a high energy dominate pup who is the most determined puppy I have owned in my 70 years. I purchased this with the bark feature which I don't really need because a little punch on occasion with the regular setting has been sufficient to train him barking without purpose is unnecessary.
ProsDial setting for intensity control is excellent design which replicates my Tritronics unit. In emergency situation flipping it to a more intense setting can be accomplished without visual reference.
Great training device

Our GSP (9 months) is good on recall when she is close - and when she is not running 30 MPH in the other direction. The e-collar helps us get her attention. The website videos, as well as the training DVD are invaluable. We particularly like the variety of options to get Bea's attention. The LED light could be a life saver!
Proseasy to use
great instructional videos

great training aid and it is waterproof unlike cheaper alternatives.
ConsI wish the collar itself was a bit wider
Best collar ever

I have used every brand of collar made. I have been training hunting dogs fir 40 years. I have had this collar for almost two years now and it really make hunting and trading easy. The bark collar system works great. The lights for night time yard duties work great for seeing the dog in the yard. I will buy another one if this one wears out. Thanks Garmin.
ProsEasy to use buttons and beeper sound is great. Easy charging.
ConsLanyard attachment. I used a lanyard from another collar control I had.

My doberman is very stubborn and I trained him using a pinch collar. He was good on leash, but when he would escape through the front door he would not respond to commands. Utilizing this Garmin sport pro a few times on walks instead of the pinch collar familiarized him quickly with the method. I can now walk outside with him off leash without him running away and blowing off commands. I can tell the difference in his behavior too. He loves the freedom he enjoys on nature walks and if he gets too far I can just use the vibration feature to call him back for a check-in. It also helped break him of jumping/humping on everyone, and lastly the remote bark limiter feature is great. Instead of having to initiate bark limiter from the collar, it can be done with the remote. This feature is great, because of my dog escaped the yard while in bark limiter I can remotely go back into correction mode to recall him before a scared neighbor calls the police. My only regrets are that I didn’t buy this solid piece of equipment earlier in training.
ProsSolid construction of device and transmitter.
Remote switching between bark limiter and correction mode.
ConsI'm a leather guy so I'm not a fan of the plastic-ish strap but it does seem pretty resilient so I'm sure it'll last.
I wish it had a quick correct button to provide a high level of stimulation when the dog needs a quick correction. This would keep me from having to rotate the stimulation dial or look down at what number it's on. Basically it would prevent a lag in correction. I can nudge the dog with a 3, but if he decides he wants a cat, car, or squirrel, I want to be able to overcome his attention on those items quickly.

Collar has helped bring our 10 month lab along. His recall in the field has improved tremendously in just a few weeks. Change for the better began immediately, and it was by only using the tone command.

I bought this unit in July from gundogsupply.com. I have been extremely pleased with this unit. The battery life is unbelievable. My labrador got used to it quickly and it has greatly increased our time together when we are working. One of the greatest aspects I have found to be the tone in the vibrate feature. Even though he is 88 pounds, he responds very well to the vibrate into the tone at great distances. So much that I have seldom used the other features. I highly recommend this for someone wanting to train their own dog. This thing just seems to keep him out of trouble. What a great product PS the personal service I received from gundog supply in the follow up after work of this purchase is why I will return to buy again from gundog supply. Thanks
ProsGreat battery life, easy to set up, great well thought out features.
ConsNot sure at this time. This thing has worked so well for me

Easy to use . Holds a charge. It works exactly as I thought it would. Thanks.
Perfect choice of collars
September 23, 2020
Had collars for about 2 weeks now. The 2 collars allow us to use 1 remote for both dogs with ease. The top switch colors match the colors of switch making it easy to teach my wife how to operate. The collar itself is built tougher than the other collars we have had. We live on 5 acres in coyote country with little fencing. The boys know that with the beeps they are to come and sit. The younger one responds real well with less than #4 correction when needed usually when he is amped and he will change his focus back to the operator. The older dog knows that a correction will follow if he does not obey the beep so he is fairly obedient. Both collars fit comfortably. The head lights allow us to find the dogs at night as we only have star light once sun goes down. The bark limiter we use on the younger dog when inside and he is slowly understanding that barking is not allowed unless there is a real threat. Easy to set from remote and switching between modes. Hoping to not use after the learning is done. Great product for how we use the collars to keep the boys safe. We are hoping the water rating holds up as we have not been to the lake yet. Thank you Gun Dog for your help with the selection.
ProsEase of use
Collar color matches remote settings
Switching between modes is easy
Headlights for night tracking
Bark limiter easy to switch into from remote
Doesn't seems to bother dogs wearing
Tougher built than others
Last 3 days on one full charge
Green flash of LED makes night time easy to see dog
ConsReally haven't found any as they were plug and play
Wish remote came with a belt clip
Significant changes from my 80's vintage AL70LR

The new collars like the Sport Pro are such great tools, the old collars got the job done but the new lower-key stimulation, Vibration, and Tone allow you to communicate with your dog vs simply sending the stronger "you did something wrong" message.
Of course even back then we realized the importance of conditioning and making sure the dog understands the meaning of the stimulation and that is key as well today.
What is nice now is the ability to quickly access all the options and even change the stimulation level without even looking at the controller.
ProsNice compact and lightweight collar and controller that is easy to use and well built. The DVD is a nice add on as well, especially for those who have not done any work with a collar before.
Service from GDS excellent as always, shipping was fast as usual.
ConsThe charging system is really a sea of connectors that are not needed and I fear they will come apart or fail from repeated use. I chose to apply large size heat shrink tubing over them so they stay connected but Garman/Tri-Tronics could do a better job on that system. See circled areas on photo.
Gun Dog Supply while I appreciate the inclusion of a lanyard, stepping it up to something a bit more substantial and more comfortable would be nice. Honestly, I had several ID and access pass lanyards from various events that were giveaways that are a bit easier on the neck and allow the remote to snap on and off. Just a thought.

I have two beagles who've previously had the Delta Sport XC collars. We lost the controller so instead of buying another one we decided to upgrade since we were not satisfied with that model.
This model is heads and tails above the Sport XC. Battery life is significantly longer and the LED light feature on this model is worth its weight in gold. If you have a big backyard or you let them out in the woods at night the LED is super useful. If I can't find one, and their nose is to the ground, I can turn on the bright LED light and see where they are at from far away. It's also a safety thing for visibility by cars.
Overall, the collar is bigger than the Delta Sport XC but not too big. Again, I use these on two beagles, a smaller one and a large frame one. Very happy with this purchase and I wish we would have upgraded long ago.

We had been researching all different kinds trying to find one that would work best for us and our pup. We chose this one based on it being a Steve’s pick and what he had to say about it. We couldn’t be happier. It has been easy to use and very effective in keeping our pup close to use and safe while still giving her the space she needs to get the activity that she needs. One of the features that drew us to this one was that it was reported to be waterproof and that the remote could float. We live on a lake and do a lot of swimming and boating. We have used it in the water several times so far and it does actually appear to be waterproof and the remote actually does float.

I was gifted a new pup to accompany the pointer we already had, so I needed an additional E-collar system. Instead of fumbling between two systems, I decided to look for a product that could manipulate multiple collars with one controller. I wanted a controller that I could easily manipulate without having to constantly look at the settings, and the collars needed to be rugged with an ample range, water proof, shock proof and most of all clutts proof. “Hahahaha” The Garmin Sport Pro fit the bill perfect! I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to use especially when selecting commands between collars, and the recharging time is fast. The new pup had started a habit of yelping while chasing after the older dog, but the anti-bark settings on the collar has been very effective In curbing that habit. I do recommend this product to anyone who needs to control/ train multiple dogs, and is looking for a rugged and easy to use system. Gun Dog Supply shipping are second to none, I was given tracking information and an estimated time of arrival, I received it a day before their calculations. Shipping to Hawaii is always a crap shoot, but my package arrived on time!!! Great service from a great company for a great product.
Keep those shoe laces tight, dogs hydrated and gun at the ready. Safe Hunting...
ProsEasy to use, quick recharge, rugged construction, water resistant, collar made of tough materials.
ConsTransmitter/ Controller comes without a belt clip or lanyard, receiver on collar a bit bulky,

Great collar for a GSP
September 3, 2020
I purchased the collar to replace an older Sport Upland G3 and I am not disappointed. The range is good, and for my headstrong follow-my-nose 8 year old GSP, I never have to go above a 5 on the STIM dial. A nice upgrade from my old collar is the vibe and tone, which is usually all I need to get his attention. The ability to turn the lights on and off from the remote control is especially handy.
ProsVibe and tone functionality, along with the lights on the collar.
ConsMy older collar came with a 1 inch collar that feels much more durable.

This is a fantastic product it has made dog training so much easier. The ability to turn power up and down with a dial one handed is perfect. Being able to turn bark mode on without having to take the collar off it also extremely handy. Bright LED light are useful if u need them. Battery lasts about 3 days on the collar unit with only shutting it off for 8 hours a day and the controller lasts 6-9 days.
Great battery life
No delay on stimulation
Easy power dial
Ease of use
ConsNo lanyard comes with the controller

This is next generation collar for my English Setter and Weimaraner. Have had 3 other vintages over the years and this unit has improved in most areas, (lighter weight, range, battery status indicator, and usb recharging of collars and transmitter.) Collar light is a nice feature. One downside is that the collar is narrower, and on one or two occasions the collar unit has flipped upside down while on the dog, thus making the prongs useless. I have used these types of collars for over a decade and this has never happened before. While some will say collar was too loose, my response would be that my dogs have never had issues such as this with previous collars, and previous collars worked as advertised, with no abrasion injury to dog’s neck. This is not a big deal and I am making the collar tighter in light of the narrower width of the collar. I haven’t had to use shock, as both dogs, ages 13 and 8, respond well to the tone, based upon their previous experience with these type of collars. I would recommend this collar. However, the only reason I purchased this collar is because replacement batteries were not available for my previous collars, and rechargeable batteries have a life span. Thus I hope that when the time comes, the manufacturer offers replacement batteries, as these units are expensive and fully capable of continued service with just a new battery.
ProsUSB recharging, collar light, range, light weight, battery status indicator
ConsNarrow collar conducive to unit flipping over, disabling effectiveness of prongs, particularly with hunting dogs going through heavy cover.

Review for Garmin Tri-Tronics SPORT PRO
November 16, 2018
No Joke. This thing has been a complete game changer in terms of enjoying time with our boy! I belabored spending more than $100 for something I wasn't sure we'd get value from but am glad I followed the solid advice on Gundog Supply and went with Steve's Pick.
When we first got it, the dog was oblivious, so I called gun dog and Steve suggested snugging it up and making sure it rides high on his neck. Did that and BINGO... the dog responded instantly to the vibrate and quickly got the hang of it. Of course, he also started to figure out the vibrate isn't much but adjusting the correction level to even 3 would instantly get his attention. He's since gotten a bit more bold and will sometimes take a 6 if he's really wanting something, but without fail comes running back.
I've shocked myself with it to see how bad it is and it's just like a good static pop from an old television set..but plenty to get his attention and we haven't had to go beyond 6
Furthermore, the boy HATES wearing a leash and loves putting this thing on because he knows he's going to have freedom. We live in the burbs and I don't hunt but we take him to woods, etc and he cuts loose swimming etc and loves it. This has changed my relationship with our dog and both of us enjoy not being tethered to a leash.
Few Things on the device - waterproof and battery life/charge have been great. I just get in habit of putting on the charger once a day at some point - range is awesome. He's been almost mile away in woods and comes running - at first I thought the material on the collar was a bit strange but it had held up awesome in mud, river water, you name it! - the old school analog dial and simple buttons —LOVE IT. Can be -10 and I don't have to take it out of pocket and I know exactly where it's tuned. If I forget, I back the dial without looking to the stop and then count the clicks up. Simple and works great without having to pull it out of pocket and look. - we haven't used the two dog feature but it's great to have even with one dog because you can toggle the switch down and not worry about your dog getting zapped if you sit on it with it in your pocket.
Bottom line - Would highly recommend you stop the search and worry about if it's inhumane to use something like this on your pup. YOU have all the control you need and it's about getting the dogs attention, NOT “shockingly them. I'm a firm believer that if you use this properly it'll be a game changer for you and your dog. I know Willy would give two paws up as well.
I can't recommend this thing enough to anyone and Gun Dog support was fantastic. Their price was excellent too but II'd personally pay More here for their support than some bozo that doesn't know anything about it on amaz on or elsewhere.
Stop thinking about it and GET IN THERE!!

I have 2 border collies who are loyal, sweet, intelligent, and love to learn and work. However, they both would completely lose their mind (and hearing) anytime they stirred up a jackrabbit while out in the pasture. They chased until they completely lost the rabbit - often after a quarter mile or more - and then would come running back. It was their only fault, but it was a big one, and a safety issue. I ordered the Garmin E collar pretty much out of desperation. After watching the training video that came with the collars, I started with my dogs, using it only to call them to come back. They are otherwise well trained. They learned in a few sessions that the collar signal meant they must come back when called, no matter what they were doing. A light touch with the collars was all that was necessary. Then I put it to the test in the pasture. In less than 2 weeks, I could call them off of a rabbit without even touching the E collar remote. I'm a believer. What a difference.
ProsTransmitter controls multiple collars.
Easy to toggle back and forth between dogs.
Remote is simple to work.

First time with an e-collar to train for hunting. Easy to use one handed. “Pistol grip” love the Ability to have tone/vibrate then stimulated. Added benefit is being able to extend it up to three collars.
ProsEasy to use,
ConsCharging system cumbersome.
Great training/hunting/safety tool.

I’ve been a big fan of training collars for many years. This one is great not only for training, but for hunting and safety as well. I live in Alaska and there are plenty of moose and bear around. You never know how your dog will react when there is an encounter. This has happened to me more than once with different dogs, and sometimes with multiple dogs at once. You have total control with these collars. This collar has saved my dogs life from wild animals and vehicles. Learn to use it properly and you and the your dogs will both love it.
ProsWorks great, easy to use, added bark feature if needed.
ConsDid not come with a lanyard or clip for the remote.
Best E-Collar for your dollar

Sure it isn’t the GPS tracking, digital map displayed unit... but it’s got good range, it’s reliable, it durable, and it just plain works. I’ve got 2 and the first one is 5+ years old and still works perfectly.
Great training collar.

We have two large breed dogs! Having these collars easily programmed by one remote is amazing!! No more scrambling to remember what collar goes with what remote and they are very good quality!
Pros1 remote for two colors
Fairly easy to program
ConsWhich the instruction book explained a little more about the functions of the remote, took a bit to figure out what the shock setting was.

The collars are very user friendly and straightforward. Easy operation and room for expansion.
ProsEasy to use.
Good range and easily programmable settings.

It’s nice to have the bark collar built in with the ecollar. This has made a “world of difference” with my dogs barking. It’s pretty much zero now and I haven’t had it more than 2 weeks. Highly, highly recommend this unit if you have a stubborn barker.....
ProsAll in one unit.
Holds a good charge so far.
ConsNone right now...

Replaced a Sport Dog 1825. Chose this for added feature of bark collar. Overall good collar. Sport Dog has larger range of stimulation settings. Both have shock, vibe, and tone. Don’t think you could go wrong with either system. Garmin has more features. Garmin does not come with lanyard. Kinda disappointing to spend $400 and have to spend more to keep track of the remote. Charger system has more connections than necessary, lots of pieces to loose. Somewhat over come by long battery life.
