I haven't installed these antennas, but have replaced the Astro antenna in the past with this same unit. When you are intermittently receiving updates, it is time to replace the receiving unit's antenna or the collar antenna. If you're running with more than one dog collar and have intermediate updates from both dogs, then chances are the problem is with this unit (Astro Receiver).
