European Style Silent WhistleAn excellent means of communication with your best friend without the annoying trill of normal dog whistles.Instructions: This whistle produces sounds that are insignificant to the human ear but extremely audible to the more sensitive hearing of a dog. While it is not totally silent, this whistle is an excellent means of communication with your best friend without the annoying trill of normal dog whistles. With a range of up to 2 miles with optimum weather and terrain conditions, the European Silent whistle is adjustable for close and long range work. Adjusting the Tone Remove the black plastic cap to access the frequency adjustment screw. It is a tight fit, but it should snap off. With your dog close by, start blowing the whistle. While adjusting the turn screw, observe at what frequency your dog reacts the most. When you can see an obvious reaction, tighten the lock nut and replace the black cover. Take the dog and the whistle outside and do the same thing. The results should be very similar. Steve Says: Silent WhistleSometimes the cap can be difficult to remove. You may want to warm the plastic cap with a hair dryer or some other heat source to make it easier. I have had good luck getting the cap off by sticking a pen or pencil halfway through the ring on the end and using it as a handle to pull with. Once it comes apart the first time it usually isn't a problem anymore. This whistle is a "silent whistle". It is used to give commands to dogs over distance just as any other whistle is used. It is called a "silent whistle" because it operates on a frequency above that of the average person's hearing. Most people will hear a faint sound. In other words it is very LOUD to dogs but very QUIET to people. It is not a "silencer" and does nothing to make a dog stop barking nor will it repel an aggressive dog. Steve Snell

Newfoundland loosing his hearing
April 27, 2023
I purchased this silent whistle hoping my aging Newfoundland (almost 9 yr.) would be able to hear it. And he can! Not all the time but sometimes. When he hears it he reacts right away and comes to me. I use it when we hike or when I'm outside working. It's been a life saver. Great company to deal with. Recommend them highly.

I tried adjusting the whistle a quarter turn at a time multiple times. My 2 dogs ignored it. The only time they responded to the whistle is when they saw my put it to my lips to blow it. I have returned to my plastic dogtra whistle.

Hard to disassemble to make the sound adjustments. I have an older one same model. And with the directions in the new package I was able to disassemble that one.

Great adjustable tone whistle
October 16, 2020
I ordered this whistle to assist in training my German Shorthaired Pointer puppy to return from a distance on the whistle command. The Whistle arrived, just as ordered. The key-ring style loop makes it easy to attach the whistle to a lanyard....or a string around your neck. The quality of machining and materials suggests that this will a lifetime. The plastic sleeve removes with a twist and tug to reveal the adjustable tone setter....trial and error to get to the tone that elicits a cock of the head and recognition from my dog. You can lock that tone with a set screw...and replace the plastic sleeve. The dog training is going well. Useful, low tech tool for training.

Works great. Use it for Early morning training sessions in the neighborhood to not wake up the neighbors.

I have not introduced this into my training yet. The dog is whistle broke, so I am sure this will be a useful tool.

The plastic piece does come off simple enough with a heat source such as a blow dry as recommended. My problem with this whistle is I have to constantly remove the plastic piece and adjust(screw in or out) the inside piece to get this whistle to work properly. I am now going to try the acme high pitch whistle and hope it is a better performing whistle.

Perfect for the urban park trainer. Silent enough to run the dog at 5am in the park across the street and not wake a soul. Another plus, all of your friends are using a Roy in the field, so your dog is on his own frequency. Tip-adjust pitch, then use thread lock, then tighten, other wise the frequency can change. This is not in the instructions, but a vital step.
