Mushers Secret is a dense barrier wax that forms a breathable bond with your dog's paws. Developed in Canada for use as a pad protector for sledding dogs, it provides protection even in the most extreme conditions. Perfect for dogs who don't like boots on their feet!
Made from 100% safe and natural waxes, Musher's Secret won't stain carpet, is non-toxic, never goes bad, and is easy to use. The semi-permeable shield is absorbed into the paws, allowing perspiration to escape through the toes. Excellent for preventing snowballing and saltburn on your dog's toes in the winter and protects paws against sandburn and hot asphalt in summer. Apply a small amount on and in-between your dog's toes. If snowballing re-occurs, just reapply. Wipe off excess after use.
Also can be used for protection and soothing relief from fly bitten ears, open sores, cracked toes, nicks, scratches, and burns. Just apply a small amount to the affected area as needed.
200g Mushers Secret
Save a little when you buy the medium size. I can almost make it through the season on one can.
I seldom need protection from snow and ice, but I use Musher's Secret on my dogs pads when we run in the sand. I find it protects there feet the same way that waxing my boots makes them last longer. Musher's Secret is easy to use and I prefer it over boots as long as there are no sand spurs.
On long trips I use it to make sure my dogs feet hold up for the entire hunt. It's a great product.
We're looking at Mushers Secret today. It's one of my favorite products for dog pads. Dogs' pads are really the most important part about them from a running standpoint. You've got to have them in good condition. You've got to have them where they can hold up under a lot of pressure.
I do a lot of hunting in really dry environments, so I deal with a lot of sand. Mushers Secret was originally designed for dogs to run in the snow. The concept behind it was that you'd put the Musher Secret, a wax type product, in between the pads and it would keep snow and ice from forming inside the dog's pads. That was the original design for it.
But what I use it for is to condition the pads so that they can be protected from sand burn. It's not uncommon if I have a dog whose pads are not in good shape at the beginning of the season for them to blow a pad. That's where the top of the pad gets ripped off and you are down for about two weeks if your pads come apart like that.
So Musher Secret, to me, the best way to explain it, it's kind of like waxing a boot. It keeps the pads strong and supple. That's just really what it feels like. I put in on my dogs prior to running them. When you get through after an hour, hour and a half, when you look at the pads you can just see the difference between them. Like I said, the best way to describe it is taking a pair of boots and they are dried out, old, and they are going to crack. Pads will do the exact same thing. So Mushers Secret is a great product for that. I use it especially early in the season and it keeps my dogs' pads in great shape.
I just wanted to share with anyone considering this product for snow use...that it's extremely effective! I was able to try it out for the first time this weekend here in Southern MN. The snow was just above freezing, causing it to ball up on the back of my Springer's legs in golf ball sized clumps. I put this on her paws on the way out of the truck...just a little on each foot making sure to get it between each toe.
We spent a good 3 hours running through the snow and at the end of it, she had 2 clumps of snow, smaller than the size of a pea on one of her paws...that's it! It was amazing. Last year as a pup, she would get big clumps of snow between each toe just playing in the back yard. I would suggest this to anyone planning to do any late season hunting, or even having a dog outdoors during the winter.

Before this product, I tried a number of boots and had poor results for various reasons. After finding mushers secret on gundogsupply.com I wouldn't go without. I apply this to my dog's pads during the cold winters of Wisconsin before any outdoor hunting or activity. It keeps his pads protected and healthy. It prevents his pads from drying out and developing cuts/splitting.

"Protected their feet incredibly well, leading to no foot soreness at all"
Taking my labs to South Dakota has always meant sore feet for them transitioning to chasing pheasants in the fields there, from Waterfowl hunting in Wisconsin. Leading even to limited hunting time. None of my dogs have tolerated boots well. This year, mushers secret changed that. It protected their feet incredibly well...leading to no foot soreness at all after three long days afield!

Gator used to get abrasions on his paws from the gravel roads and broken ice! Since we started using Musher's his paws stay healthy! They don't get dry and cracked. In the summertime he is more tolerant of pavements. All around, year round, I recommend Musher's for every paw!

"It did not affect any home flooring or ability to walk on floors after use in the field. This product did what it promised."
Product works well in the tough Wisconsin winters running the dog on snow and ice. It prevents snowballing and reduces cuts from ice, as the pads stay flexible. It did not affect any home flooring or ability to walk on floors after use in the field. This product did what it promised.

Our 10 year old Brittany has dementia, and he has some major sensory issues. Sometimes it hurts walking on concrete/asphalt...and the snow will ball up in his paw pads making walking painful too. Immediately after applying this, he was no longer limping while walking across the street. Lasted about two weeks before needing to reapply. We haven't had snow since applying it, but I expect positive results as well.

"This is a simple straight up product that does exactly what it says it will do."
Great product. For some reason, my Setters get almost instant snow/ice balls between their pads whenever I run them in the snow. Gooping this stuff all over the pads and in between the pads truly does mitigate the snow and ice build up. My dogs don't do boots, so this stuff opens up a lot of options for a Minnesota Grouse and Pheasant hunter in Nov/Dec! I strongly recommend the product.

Excellent as promised. Really helped with reducing any occurrences of snowballing and any further snow accumulation on her paws. Where it was especially helpful is with chemical salt burns that sadly we have been fighting living in the city. You can really feel the difference in the softness of pads preventing any cracks and treats. I would highly recommend this to any dog facing same issues.

"I have recommended it to many of my dog loving friends."
It was not clear how much to apply and how to apply it. Best way is just use my finger with about a half teaspoon per paw. Dog was scared half to death the first few times I used, which I think is a riot. Has worked very well.

Jet is able to run in the field of snow now without pain! Poor guy would get wads of snow in his paws and he would stop and sit down to bite at them when we were out in the snow. I called the dogs' trainer, who is a God send, and he recommended it! When I put it on Jets paws he had no trouble running the field AND his paws felt really supple after! He does want to lick it off, but as long as I get him going right away, he forgets about it until we get inside, THEN he sits and licks it all off. I don't care! We can enjoy winter!

I LOVE this product!!! I provide pet care on the east coast and a lot of my owners are unaware how painful the salts is on the roads, walkways, and steps can be to their pups. So I like to keep a tub in my car to be able to aide (always w permission first) any pup that may need a little protection from the elements! Whether (hehe) that be salting or the the snow that maybe balling up in their pads. Musher's is great for sooo many uses also hot sand; check it out!

It was recommended to me 8 years ago and we still use it on Ellie's paws during the winter so she doesn't get snow and ice stuck in her webbed paws. I recommend it also for hot weather, it protects paws when on hot pavement.

I bought this after my dog got a bad cut on his pad during a pheasant hunt. After missing a month in the field, I needed something to prevent another pad injury. I've used it 3 times on several hour/all day pheasant hunts and 1 all day salt marsh duck hunt, and the pup's pads have been great. Makes my hands nice and smooth too.

Works great. My dogs don't have issues with their paws. While my hunting buddies dogs, who don't use mushers secret, struggle with cuts and bleeding and discomfort with ice and snow. Worth every penny.

"Made my dog's paws softer and kept snowballs from sticking so badly."
So far so good. I was having problems with my dog getting salt burn on his feet. A few applications of Musher's Secret, and it seems to have taken care of the problem. I also like to apply a liberal amount before upland hunting in snow. It keeps the ice buildup to a minimum.

"We've had a tough winter. This was a great find."
This product works great! We use our German Shepard to do a lot of tracking at night on and off leash, and she finds her subject every single time. The one thing we don't have to worry about are her paws getting raw. This product is non greasy and easy to use. If I could give it 10 stars I would.

"Helps us stay out in the snow and ice as long as our adventures last."
I bought this to help my old dog, who has slick paw pads, get around a little easier on hardwood floors. She has been falling down a lot, and I thought this might help instead of traction socks which she hates. It has not corrected the problem entirely. She is still sliding some and falling. I'm going to keep using it to see if over time it will help.

Used it in South Dakota terrain--corn, milo, and grass; no snow, some mud. My dog's feet didn't appear to be as sore as in previous years. Also rubbed some on the outside of his ears to help keep burrs, etc. from sticking to the ears.

I do not have much experience with paw protector products, but Musher's Secret seems to be working well. Paws had some dryness and cracking which went away after a couple of applications. Now applying it every few days to maintain moisture. I live in Northern Ontario, this winter will test the products cold weather effectiveness.

Seems to work pretty good on the pads, but I was hoping that it would also do a good job on the top of the toes. It is better than nothing, but after a week of hunting (and daily application), still ended up with raw toes and exposed skin. Worth a try, but was hoping for a little better results.

I used this Musher's Secret on my GSP during a 3-day pheasant hunt in South Dakota. To test it, we did not use the product on another GSP in our group. I was hoping that Musher's Secret would prevent the sores caused by hunting slough grass and crop fields. At the end of the 3 days, there was no difference between the condition of the two dog's feet. The product does not bother the dogs and had no negative effect, but did not prevent foot pad abrasions for these specific conditions. I still gave it 3 stars because it was tested in some of hardest hunting conditions a dog's feet endures. Also, keep in mind that Gun Dog Supply is recommending it for sand burn, which I cannot comment on.

Used it twice. First time followed directions. Put on sparingly as instructed. Went for 30 minute walk in snow. Checked paws and still had ice balls? Second time. Applied very heavy. 30 minute walk in snow. Check and still had ice balls? How long is supposed to last? Does it need to be applied every 10 Minutes??? I cannot give this product a positive review. I will keep on trying it until the product is used up. Was hoping this would solve our problem. We hunt pheasant usually when there is snow on the ground.
