I carry two whistles with in the field. I know that a lot of people are getting away from whistles, but just a vibration on a collar can confuse a dog if they can't hear or see you. One of the whistles I carry is the Pea-Less Whistle because sometimes the pea will freeze.

I've been using the (pea-less) Roy Gonia Special for over 20 years. The dogs respond well to the tone and the pea-less whistle doesn't get froze up in cold temperatures.
