It's really more of a preference as far as what you like. What I like about this one, it's a rope style check cord. It's designed to be tangle free. And so, in the field it's less likely to get bunched up. Beyond that, it's a good cord. I like orange cords, especially on birddogs. It makes it easy to see in the field. This one is just a little bit smaller. It's got a smaller snap, so it's going to work with a smaller dog. Check cords are a big deal. I'm amazed at the number of folks who try to train dogs without them. It's probably the most important thing, especially with a young dog, and prior to making that transition from off leash to e-collar work. A check cord is a key part of that. Good basic line, but does get dirty and snags a bit. Next time, I'd go for flat biothane, I think. I also likely could have gone with a lighter line. The 5/16" seems a bit of overkill for a 6mo old pup in the field, but still works fine.

I bought this for my English Setter puppy after he chewed the first one in half (totally my fault). it is relatively in-expensive, but very sturdy and durable with a nice amount of give. The dog can drag it through tall grass no-problem, but when he runs into underbrush I usually have to untangle him or get him to recall and then let go of my end. I like this length.

My old checkcord was due for replacement so I ordered this one with my new collar for my pup. Overall I am very happy with it thus far. Tangle free doesn't absorb a lot of water and a great bright orange color for improved visibility and a great price. I would highly recommend this cord to anyone!

I bought my first dog lead from Tom Dokken's dog supply shop. It seemed alright at first, but when I went into the field with weeds & brush the nylon braid had gaps in the weave where it would catch on weeds and snag making nylon loops along the length of the lead. Much happier with this lead. It's more like a mountain climbing rope. It also lays flatter on the ground making it easier for the dog to cross over it without his legs getting tangled in it. And no snags with this one!

I've owned several Sportdog checkcords over the years. They never disappoint. For young dog training, the cord is light enough that it will rest upon the running dog's back and not get tangled in his feet. The rope is smooth enough to grab with your bare hands as a dog runs by. The cord has no memory which makes wrapping and storage super easy. I always get the 30' in case I need to cut off and repurpose a few feet of cord in a pinch.
