Realistically, this isn't going to happen in most of the places that we spend time with our dogs, so the actual usable range will be MUCH less than 7 miles depending on hunting conditions, including weather, terrain, and the presence of cover.
I had my 4.5 month old Llewellin setter out today on a trail with the Sportdog TEK 1.5 L combo to track her. IT WORKS. I can see where my dog is and what direction she is headed.
