Fantastic collar

This is my second leather collar from GDS. 1st is 11+ years old on my old GSP. It's a bit tattered and looking rough, but he's still wearing it , after 10years of hard hunting with it on. It's got a lifetime of memories in that collar. Minimal maintenance throughout the years, washed in soap & water when iy got muddy and treated with leather conditioner about 1/yr. Hoping this 2nd collar purchased for my 5month old DK will age as equally graceful through the years.

This collar is exceptionally well made and clearly built to last. It works perfectly for our big black Lab puppy. The leather is thick, durable, and high quality. The ring design allows for flexibility and helps prevent him from getting caught on branches, which we really appreciate. The tag is easy to read, and we love that there's no more constant jingling from loose tags. On top of all that, the collar looks fantastic on him. Every lab I've owned has had one of these collars from Gun Dog Supply. Through frequent swims, and everything they seem to get into these collars are tough as nails, but remain supple. They are well worth the little bit of additional cost, the quality is well worth it. Gun Dog Supply installed both engraved plates and shipped in record time as well.

I bought this to replace a nylon collar on my 9 month old GWP. She found it comfortable from the start, and when pulling hard while on a leash, the ring seems to lessen the stress on her throat. It also looks great. If she outgrows this size, a larger one will be the replacement.

I have been buying these collars for 25 years or more. In my mind you can not get a better collar. the stitched edges, heavy duty roller buckle hardware and vivets at the fold overs make these things last for years. They are stiff enough the dog feels light collar pressure so no jerking and potential for injury when training the center ring makes hook up to a lead easy because the ring is always on top of the dog. You can add a second brass plate and have all your information right on the collar so nothing hangs off the dog to get caught on anythingThe only thing I do different is to replace the hollow rivets that are included and use a solid copper rivets and washers to hold the plates on

This Mendoza leather collar is awesome, and I would highly recommend getting the 6' Mendoza lead to go along with it. They are a perfect match. The collar has the safety ring which I really like, not only safe for your dog, but easy to snap the lead to as well. If you have a working dog, leather collars are far superior to nylon or certainly metal-link collars. This is a well constructed leather collar with reinforcing stitching, rivets and brass hardware. The workmanship is very good. This collar will last a long time I'm sure. Having the customized nameplate riveted on means it will never get lost and it's also quiet!

Purchased the Mendota collar for its look and weight...have two large dogs, an adopted pyrenees/border collie mix (5 years old) and a chocolate lab puppy (6 months). As the pup has grown older and bolder, they've begun wandering off our 15 acre property together to visit neighbors. Following Steve's advice, I added the brass tag to each collar including my name, city, phone number and the phrase "reward if found." Most have refused to take any money, so it's only cost me an additional $40 so far to get my dogs back.
