Asher Remote Backing Dog with Transmitter -- POINTERTeaches pointing dogs to stop or "back" when another dog points. The Asher Remote Backing Dog teaches pointing dogs to stop or back when another dog points. It is specially designed to simulate a lead dog on point, making it perfect for teaching your dog to honor the point while improving steadiness and obedience. The easy-to-use transmitter allows the raising and lowering of the dog at the push of a button.
Steve Says: Asher Backing Dog -- POINTERThe Asher Remote Backing Dog makes training much easier, especially when you are working by yourself. It's a specialized piece of birddog training equipment designed to teach your dog to "back" -- to honor the point of another dog. When a birddog goes on point, your other dogs, whether they smell the birds or not, should stop so they don't flush the birds. The Remote Backing Dog is designed to help create a situation where you can surprise your dog by presenting a visual of another dog that's on point. The Auto Backing Dog lays flat and out of sight until you press a button on the remote causing it to pop up, presenting a pointing dog. The majority of dogs are going to stop instinctively, but if they do not, we give them a very minor correction so they understand they need to stop on the visual of another dog that's on point. We can also use bird launchers in conjunction with the Backing Dog. Once your dog is established on point you release the birds. This lets you work on honoring another dog that's on point as well as working on steady to wing. If you stop your dog and then birds flush, he gets the idea that when birds are in the air he's supposed to stand still. Once you've worked through the progression of raising the Remote Backing Dog, launching your birds, and firing your shots, before you release your dog press the button and make your Backing Dog lower and disappear. Another use for the Remote Backing Dog is to keep your dogs fresh during the summer when it's too hot to do much training, and the scenting conditions are so bad your dog isn't going to have an opportunity to smell the birds. Once a week I'll take a dog out and pop the Backing Dog. He'll get an opportunity to back. I'll flush a bird and fire off a couple of shots. Scent isn't really involved, but it keeps his backing tight and gives him the opportunity for steady to wing and steady to shot. You can even tether a pigeon so it goes down and looks like a shot bird. If you set up using a dummy with your launcher and Remote Backing Dog you can work on retrieves or hunting dead. Steve Snell

The remote dog works great, except the remote is very cheap. There should be some type of lanyard attached to it because it's small and can get lost very easily!!

A Plus. Very functional. Although a Setter Head and Tail would make it more attractive! But still functional as designed.

I love the thought that went into this. It's lightweight, doesn't take up space and is easy to use. My only complaint is the cheap fealing of the remote. Otherwise it is awesome.
