Garmin Tri-tronics PRO 70The next generation of the bestselling Tri-Tronics Classic 70.Pro 70 is already a ClassicThe Garmin PRO 70 is the latest generation of the popular Tri-Tronics Classic 70, and is the modern version of such Tri-Tronics classic collars as the original A1 70 and the Judge.One-handed operationThe PRO 70 gives you one-handed functionality so you don't have to take your eyes off your dog. The simple "one button per dog" controls are color coded to match each dog's collar, and the top-mounted dial lets you choose from 6 levels of stimulation plus tone.Expands to 6 dogsThe PRO 70 can be expanded up to 6 dogs with additional collars -- just flip the toggle switch to select dogs 1-3 or 4-6.Beacon LightsRemote operated Beacon Lights built in to the receiver collar help you locate your dog in low light situations.Built-in Bark LimiterThe built-in BarkLimiter (activated on the receiver collar) helps keep your kennel a little quieter when you get back home.
![]() Steve Says: Garmin PRO 70The Garmin PRO 70 replaces the Tri-Tronics Classic 70. Designed with the beagler and the houndsman in mind, the PRO 70 is a long-range problem solver with one button per dog simplicity.
"PRO 70 is the perfect problem solver for folks that run multiple dogs in the field at the same time."The PRO 70 has the least number of changes over any of the new systems. The basic operation is identical to the Classic 70 that Tri-Tronics has been making for the last decade. The PRO 70 gives you one-handed functionality so you don't have to take your eyes off your dog. The simple "one button per dog" controls are color coded to match each dog's collar, and the top-mounted dial lets you choose from 6 levels of stimulation plus tone. PROBLEM SOLVER I classify this unit as a problem solver since it has a limited number of stimulation levels (6 continuous). Problem solving collars are designed to make corrections in situations like chasing off game, digging, counter surfing and chasing cars. The increases between levels can be too great to train many dogs. What will happen in many situations with the PRO 70 is that the lowest level is not enough to get your dog's attention but the next level is too much stimulation for him. This creates a situation where you CANNOT use this collar to teach many basic obedience commands. PERFECT FOR YOU IF: If you are looking for a collar to correct bad behavior with multiple dogs then go with the 70. DOING TRAINING? NEED MORE LEVELS? If you are wanting a collar to train basic obedience and advanced hunting skills, you need to look at the PRO 550. NEED MORE RANGE? The PRO 70 is a one mile range system. For many folks this is plenty, but if you run really big ranging hounds, you may want to look at the 4 mile range PRO Trashbreaker. PRO 70 FEATURES: Transcript from Steve's Video: This is the Garmin Tri-Tronics Pro 70. This is the workhorse of the Tri-Tronics line. It’s very similar to what they’ve been doing for the last decade. It’s a really simple design, one button per dog. And there really was not a whole lot to change to it. It’s perfect for folks that are running large numbers of dogs up to six from one transmitter and that need a problem solver. When I say a problem solver, that’s what this collar is designed for. It is not what I would classify as a traditional training collar because of the stimulation levels. It’s a six level collar and it’s perfect for stopping dogs from bad behaviors—chasing off game, chasing cars, digging, any of that type of thing. It’s designed to stop dogs from doing things they are not supposed to be doing. But it cannot be used in a traditional manner as a remote training collar for me, as far as training a dog, because of the stimulation levels; the jumps between levels are pretty high. We’ll talk about that a little bit more. This is a one button per dog collar. You’ll see it’s got three buttons across the front here. You’ve got Dog 1, Dog 2, Dog 3. You have a toggle switch. Kick that down and now it’s a 4, 5, 6. If you’ll notice, you have three different colors on the buttons, so your Dog 1 is black. Dog 2 is going to be red. Dog 3 is going to be blue. And then when you kick your toggle switch down, the rings around the buttons represent the collar strap colors. So you’ve got orange, green, and yellow. Your dial on the top has a couple of new things here. We’ve got beacon lights that are built into the collars. Then you’ve got tone. Then you’ve got your levels 1-6 for continuous stimulation. There are several new features that are in the Pro 70. We have beacon lights that are built into the collar that can be remotely turned on and off from the transmitter. Then we also have a built-in bark limiter where you can take your collar and you can turn it into a bark collar. It’s not a remote bark collar in that you no longer have control over the stimulation from the transmitter. You actually have to activate it on the collar. That allows you to use it as bark collar when your dog is barking in the backyard, in the kennel, however you want to use it. Beacon lights on the Pro 70 are activated from the transmitter. On the dial you have an L selection. That stands for lights. You turn your dial to L and then one button per dog, so we’re going to press the black button, beacon lights come on. When you are ready to cut them off, you press the button again and they turn off. So, on and off. This is independent for each dog. If you’ve got three or four different dogs running at one time and you want to turn the lights on, on one, turn the lights off on another, real simple to do from the transmitter. The Pro 70 collar is very similar to what we’ve had in the past, except it’s smaller, which is going to be great especially for our folks that are running Beagles. It’s a little bit smaller collar. It also comes with a three-quarter inch collar strap. So, on a smaller dog, it’s going to look better. It’s going to fit them better. But it’s still going to be big enough for your biggest hound. So, not a problem there. It’s similar to what we’ve had in the past. It’s got the same contact points that we’ve had for years. It comes with a regular. We also have long included, so if you have a thick-coated dog and you need to change it out, you can switch those out. You’ve got your on/off button. You’ve got your indicator light on the front. And then you’ve got your beacon lights. The Garmin Pro 70 is an expandable system. What that means is that you can buy it as a one-dog system and then you can come back later and add collars 2-6 as needed. I’m going to show you real quick how to add a collar. It’s real simple. Get your selector dial on the collar that you want. Right now we’re going to add Dog 2. I’ve got my Dog 1 in black. Now we’re going to add Dog 2, which is a red collar. To put the collar into the mode so you can sync it up, press the on/off button, hold it down. Green light is going to come on, blue light is going to come on, then it’s going to turn to yellow. Now hold down your red button and then you’ll hear it beep at you several times. Now it’s done and we are in here. We’ll show you the lights. We’ll go to the lights on there. That turns on. And then if you want to activate your Dog 1, so now Dog 1 and Dog 2. Turn your lights off and turn your lights off. Then to add Dogs 3-6 you just repeat the process. The Pro 70 is a great collar for folks that are running multiple dogs and that they need that ease of operation, one button per dog. Garmin really has not changed this system all that much, and so that’s a good thing. It really wasn’t broken. It did not need to be fixed. And this is a great system, probably the most popular system that we have, especially for our Beagle folks. But its also real popular with people that are working more hang three dogs at one time. So if you are running 4-6 dogs at one time and you need a one-mile problem solver, the Pro 70 is the way to go. Steve Snell Accessories for your Garmin PRO 70

3 border collies can run free again!
October 20, 2022
We have 46 acres full of bear, coyotes and porcupines. After a vet visit to remove quills because my dogs would not recall off of a porcupine, they are now running free again on their daily walks with me!

Great e-collars and GUN DOG SUPPLY IS THE BEST!
December 1, 2025
As a professional working with canines for over 20 years, Gun Dog Supply and Garmin have been my go to. Some of my e-collar kits are over 10 years old and still work like a charm. Easy to set up and work like magic.Gun Dog Supply is the best company - you know why??? When you call, you actually speak to a person. No endless voice prompts, AI, irritating music, long wait times - just a real live nice person on the other end of the line who can actually help you and actually has answers!

Great training
January 12, 2025
I've been traveling for work and taking my dogs with me. They are used to open land and barking at what they want. Staying in BNB in town I don't want them to bother the neighbors and the pro 70 has settled them down. They are bird dogs so I will be able to use it for training instead of always useing the the GPS collars. Supper simple to operate and being Garmin you know you have support if something would go wrong. Don't even shop anywhere else, Steve's prices are as good as your going to get with fast delivery and no BS!

Great Company and Product!
February 21, 2024
I purchased this system and made a couple calls to the customer service department asking questions prior to purchasing. The service was amazing. I am very pleased with the quality of the system and the ease of use. Shipping was very fast and all items arrived in great packaging. I highly recommend this unit and this company.I have six cane corsos that I am training for my farm. Two adults and four puppies, The collars have lights that can be turned on and off for night location. I wish these were available when I coon hunted with my hounds years ago. I had the old style model 70 and it worked great for my coon hounds and beagles. Major upgrades have been done to the 70 line since then. Thanks,Mark from MI

We owned a similar version to this many years ago and are thrilled that it now includes bark control. That feature works great. We also own the Garmin Alpha 100 for when we are out in the field but needed something better suited for just at home. THRILLED with the Garmin products

Tri-tronics Pro 70
February 23, 2023
Been using Gun Dog Supply for years and always get the same results, Great service, Quality products and good advice. My old Tri-tronics 90 needed a new battery and since Garmin bought out Tri-tronics they are no longer available. So far, this unit works just as well as the old one and the collar is smaller. Happy and will continue shopping with them.

I purchased the less expensive collar and was not happy with it. The quality was not there. After talking to these guys for a while, they recommended the better unit and it is night and day difference.Much better quality, distance, reliability, and now a controllable dog. The exchange was easy with Gundog Supply. Quick and simple. I will never buy another unit from anyone else!!

Great Collars
January 24, 2023
I have an older version of this collar but bought a new one because the older one quit working. The new one marries quicker and is more consistent with correction. The charging clip is better designed. I like the light option. I can see the dogs at night and what they are doing.I really like that I can check the collar is receiving and operating, visually.Older versions worked about 50% of the time and had. inconsistent charging. These new collars work beautifully, designed great, electronics work excellent

This collars system is easy to work with and you don't have to switch to all the different modes that the other collars have. I use this on a daily basis when working with my training dogs. I originally only got 3 collars but now I'm waiting for the the 3 colors to come in. So I will have a ll 6 collars for this hand held devise.

Garmin Pro 70 Review
January 14, 2022
I bought my first 'Garmin' e-collar, a Pro 70 about 2 years ago from Gun Dog Supply! My Tri Tronics collars were becoming unreliable. (I believe Garmin made sure there was no service available for them.) My biggest complaint with the 'new' Pro 70 is the width of the collar itself!!! It is not sufficient to keep the collar from moving excessively and coming off the dog! So, there, if the collar comes off the dog in the field, good luck finding it! This is what these large corporations depend on, you can now buy another collar for $150.... Well, kiss my buttocks, after loosing the collars several times, I bought some 1' collars, cut the smaller collars off and had the 1' collars stitched onto the Garmin collar. This has solved the problem but why? Hasn't Garmin solved it??? Engineered obsolescence? Or on in my case engineered loss??? The new features I do appreciate; the light & the tone are welcome additions!!! But, if you loose the collar in the field, what the hell good is it... Garmin, if ur reading? Go back to the reinforced 1' collar on the Pro series. Not sure I will buy another one of urs when this one is done. This review is by no means a negative review of GDS. They have always performed above and beyond their call of service. That's why I've come back for prolly 40 years, the days of paper catalogs! Was all we had back then! Keep up the good service Gun Dog Supply!!!

Appreciate the thoughtfulness of the design. Easy to switch modes. Elimination of momentary stim option streamlines the transmitter. Lights are an excellent feature. Four stars because of the larger size of this receiver - perhaps due to the bark eliminator and lights.

Garmin Pro 70 collar
March 20, 2021
I like the light you put on the collar. I do not like the thinner collar. I liked my old collar on my first Pro 70 collar. this one seems so small for my Doberman. The box (shocker) seems big on the small collar. It flopps around when I am trying to put the collar on my dog. I perfer the larger strap.

Use of Tone mode difficult
January 20, 2021
I use the Tone mode to get my dog's attention, correcting a behavior without shocking. This system requires you to turn a knob, which also controls the stimulation levels, to select Tone mode. It seems a small thing but I use Tone more than shock mode. For the dog's safety, I feel you should always have it on shock mode to stop dangerous behavior, like running across a road or going after a porcupine. This requires you to constantly twist the control knob, which takes your eyes off of the dog and requires two hands to make the change while juggling your shotgun. Thanks to Steve's 30 day no questions asked return policy, I am sending this system back.
