WHY A LEATHER DOG COLLAR?Some dog trainers prefer leather collars when training their dogs because it won't pull on a dog's neck like nylon or other synthetic material when you're working with a dog. Leather has a different kind of friction. Leather doesn't spin on a dog the same as nylon. Doesn't tangle. Moves better on the dog's neck when cornering. The collar turns easier.Many dog owners like the look and feel of leather dog collars. Leather is one of the world's strongest materials and lasts a long time when taken care of properly. Leather is very durable. On the downside, you have to care for leather collars a little more, especially if you're working your dogs in water and the leather gets wet. You can clean a leather dog collar with a leather cleaner such as SADDLE SOAP. You also don't want a collar to dry out, so keep it clean and oiled with neatsfoot oil or another leather conditioner. I can't say enough good things about the leather collars from GDS. I love the name plates that are attached. The quality is amazing! Our older dogs have had theirs for several years and they are as good as new. They truly hold up well. And in usual leather fashion, they look better with time and the leather is soft yet strong. I got this color for my youngest wandering dog instead of putting my address I put three phone numbers of people that they could definitely contact. The caller is exceptional the way they engrave it it doesn't fall off and it's so safe for your pet. Hans is a 3 year old 75 lb. German Shorthaired Pointer and true to reputation, is extremely high energy. I trail run with him about 4 miles a day near the lake and he tears thru the brush and is in the water all the time. The split ring keeps the collar just snug enough so it doesn't get caught on briers and twigs. I oil the collar about 1 time a month.
