The Dogtra PF2 MINI COMPASS GPS has a "line of sight" range of up to 4 miles. Realistically, this isn't going to happen in most of the places that we spend time with our dogs, so the actual usable range will be MUCH less than 4 miles depending on hunting conditions, including weather, terrain, and the presence of cover.

The Dogtra Compass builds on the Pathfinder 2 GPS track-and-train system. The big difference is where the tracking happens. With the Compass, tracking moves from your phone to a handheld. You still get full tracking without needing your phone in the field.
On the handheld, you see direction and distance to your dog. An arrow points to the dog, and the screen shows how far away he is. As the dog moves, the arrow and distance update in real time. It’s simple and fast to read.
The Compass is also a full e-collar system. You’ve got buttons on the sides and a rheostat dial on the back. All corrections—tone, vibration, or stimulation—happen from the handheld. You don’t need your phone to train your dog once the system is set up.
Your phone still works exactly the same if you want it. You can use the Pathfinder 2 app for maps, compass view, and customization. But in the field, the handheld runs everything on its own.
The Compass can also alert you if your dog is pointing or treed. It uses the collar’s position and motion to tell the difference. You get direction, distance, and status at the same time.
Right now, the Dogtra Compass comes either as a standalone handheld or packaged with the Pathfinder 2 mini collar. It works with all Pathfinder 2 collars—the regular, mini, and tracking-only collars. If you already own a Pathfinder 2, you can add the Compass and replace the yellow transceiver. It does not work with Pathfinder 1 systems.
You do need the app for initial setup and customization. After that, the phone stays in the truck if you want. Customization is one of the strong points here. You can decide how many dogs you see, what each button does, and how the system behaves.
