Great to have 2 people able to track the "lost" dog
    September 2, 2020
We already had a Pathfinder GPS system - 1 connector/transceiver + 1 collar with GPS + Tone and stimulation. Works great for our purposes - trying not to lose "new" adopted coonhounds. After spending hours listening for and tracking a wandering dog, we got this setup. Much faster to find the dog by using the compass and range or the map. Got the 2nd connector/transceiver so one person could trail the dog and the other could head them off. The Pathfinder lets multiple people track the same dog but each person needs one of these Connector/transceivers. Pair one connector with the collar. On the phone app select Share - Send Collar/Connector. Pair another phone to the other connector and, while the two connectors are close together, select Share- Receive Collar Connector on the 2nd phone. Done. Both phones track the same dog. We looked at other systems and picked this one on price, reviews and ability for multiple people to track the same dog. Not having to buy a controller with a screen saves a lot on the initial cost.
    Pros
    • We like using the phone to track - the screen is large and can be zoomed if needed - easier for older eyes. We haven't really tested the range limit but alt least within a mile and a half, it holds the signal steady - know right where the dog is constantly. The same applies to the connectors - they don't need to be close together after you set up the sharing. The tone on the collar is louder than on the Garmin collars that we also use (Pro 70 with 5 collars). The tone and stimulation also have quite a bit of range. We don't like using stimulation when you can't see the dog but you can see their response by watching their movements on the screen. Just a nice, simple system that has a reliable signal and easy to view screen. Great for tracking.
    Cons
    • Trying to use a phone as a controller takes some getting used to. We still use a Garmin collar paired to the Pro 70 handset for quick corrections at close range. The Pathfinder works just fine at any range but you need to select the right screen, the right dog, and use a slider to adjust the stimulation - lots of precision control once you get the hang of it but can be frustrating if you are trying to make a quick correction and you have to unlock your screen to get to the controls. Best to change your phone settings to keep the screen on at all times - that does eat up the phone battery some - we use a Motorola phone with a "moto-mod" battery pack and have lots of power. As I use the Pathfinder more, I am using the phone to beep the dog more and use the Garmin collar less. I think the dog will be much happier on the day we put only one collar (the Pathfinder) on him. To protect the phone, we put it in a clear, waterproof protector and clip that to our belt or vest.
