On a warm sunny day, when your dog is feeling the heat, he'll head for the shade, lie down, and pant the heat away. The Swamp Cooler from Ruff Wear uses evaporative cooling to help your dog stay cool, happy and active.
The Swamp Cooler is perfect for hiking and biking in the desert, summer walking, playing on the beach, boating on open water under full sun, or just backyard play in the sun. Also use it to keep your dog cool while waiting for your turn during outdoor agility trials, dog shows, and other events.

Great product. Dove hunting during early September in North Texas can be extremely hard on a dog. It has been as hot as 102 degrees on a few afternoon hunts this year. I bought the Swamp Vest to make sure my 12 month old lab would not get overheated. It worked better than I had hoped. The vest does a great job of keeping my dog Remi comfortable in extreme heat. You just need to be diligent to wet the vest about every 10 minutes. I froze water bottles and would pour the melted water over the vest frequently. When I first used it, I wasn't sure how effective it was until I slid my hand between the vest and the dog's back. It felt 20 degrees cooler. She hunted steady that afternoon, and we had our limit in an hour and half. She never got hot and seemed completely comfortable. The vest's seam edge is somewhat stiff, and it can chafe the inside of the front legs near the dog's armpits. I folded these down with a couple of stitches of the sewing machine to prevent chafing. Lastly, I sized the dog as a large based on the measurement guide, but since she is a rather slender dog, the vest was about one size too big. I had to do some alterations to make it fit her properly. The only negative I see is that the sides of the vest has gotten a bit tattered as it snags on the sunflower stalks. It is more cosmetic, as it does not affect the vest's performance in any way. I will be buying another vest for my Aussie.

The vest definitely works. It holds water and cools the dogs pretty quickly. In the absence of a pool of water it helps. It is hard for strong running dogs, while training, to not fight the vest. So I kept them quiet and just let the vest cool them down in between training exercises.
